Suck?

Massively?

It easily copies files from my CF Card Reader, my camera (when connected through USB) and my flashdrive 3 times slower than my girlfriend's HP Windows Vista laptop and my own Window's Vista Desktop. What the hell.

EDIT: MBP = MacBook Pro, for those who don't know the acronym.

Nope, my MBP USB speeds seem alright to me.

Grr, this really bothers me.

For a comparison, I copied 5 episodes of Arrested Development in 720p totaling 5 gigs, from the same external hard drive, and it took about 14 minutes to copy to the desktop of my MBP, as compared to about 5 and a half minutes to copy the the desktop of her HP Vista laptop.

If the external drive is formatted for Windows, which I suspect it is, it will be slower on the Mac.

If the external drive was formatted natively on the Mac you would probably see much better performance.

The upside is, at least you can read/write FAT16/32 formatted disks on the Mac. The PC will not read Mac formatted drives.

It is formatted to FAT32.

That's not a native Windows format, though. NTFS is.

On the downside, you can't copy and single file greater than 4gb to a FAT32 drive, lol. Thank god for Winrar.

Umm.... both FAT32 and NTFS are native Windows formats.
