Right, strap yourselves in for this new challenge idea.....
The challenge is started by 1 person (selected by this site) who chooses the first 2 challenge topics, posting them in a thread, for example Sky or Sea. Any 1 person can accept these challenges by posting another 2 topics, for example Bokeh or Backlighting. Anybody else can accept these challenges and post their 2 topic suggestions for the next person to accept. Only 1 person can accept each set of challenge topics. This process continues until 1 week after the first post by which time everybody sholud have a pair of topics to choose from.
At this point the challenge starts with each entrant producing a picture relating to either of their topics within the usual 1 week posting deadline and then the usual week of voting. In the above example the first accepter would produce either a Sea or Sky influenced pic, and the next would produce either a Bokeh or Backlighting influenced pic. All titles start with the challenge accepted and then the title i.e. 'Backlighting: Forest at Dawn' so voters know what they're voting on.
Advantages of this method:
1. entrants accept a topic they like
2. there will be a huge diversity of topics, like a free study, but all are chosen by other entrants, so different to FS
3. when you see something you want to try you can take it (but you'll need to be quick in case somebody else does). If you don't like it wait until you see something you do like
4. voting will be more relaxed and based on quality of the image rather than whether the entrant met the challenge or not
That's it. Please feel free to shoot this idea down, improve on it or endorse it. I'd suggest basic editing for the first attempt.
So what do you think???

Question: so you're saying every entrant has a different challenge? And therefore everybody wins?
I think I'm missing something elementary here... |

No. every entrant has the same challenge (to produce the best pic they can) but a different topic/theme. A bit like a FS except that all topics/themes are chosen by other entrants and accepted by entrants according to what they want to photo for the challenge. |

Oh- I get what you're saying now. Seems like a kinda interesting idea, but it would also burn through topic suggestions like crazy and make voting more difficult because the photos aren't really related at all.
Also, in your number 4, if you're not supposed to be so strict with challenge, why bother having so many different possible challenges? Just seems pretty similar to Free Study in that way.
I think this could work well as a side challenge though. |
