After sorting through the 5000 photos I took on my holiday in Russia I have finally decided on 4900 that I want to keep :-) Somehow it just hurts to delete photos, I can't do it. I found a little time to process a few, and started with the "village life" pics, which just had to be in black and white.
My favourite so far in the village life series is this one
If you want to see more of the Russian village pics you can find them here.
I'll extend this gallery more as soon as I find more time. I'd be very thankful for any comments. Thanx.

Why would you want to delete any pics? Burn them all to CD. Costs less than 1 cent (US) per frame or so ...
As you edit/finish them you can put those copies on another disc. I have software that came with Isaac's Fuji which print index sheets -- I send it to Adobe Acrobat so I end up with handy, portable, and compressed proof sheets I can keep on the computer (or post or email) to help find the originals on CD. |

Gary, these are awesome. They have a Time/Life magazine quality to them, what a great peek into their part of the world.

The 'favorite in the village' intrigued me to look at the whole 'Russian village', which then inspired me to look at all your photos. The net result -- OH MY GOD! If I practice enough, work hard, get lucky enough, and boost all that with prayer ... and do something half as good as these I'd be a happy happy man. I can easily see why you ribbon here often. Very well done. |

Those are beautiful, kiwi. The boy shot is amazing. Rosa (the first shot) is easily my second favorite.

Damn Gary, ditto what everyone else said about the village shots. Superb.
Love the more abstract shots from St Petersburg too - the Avroro shots and Restaurant Sign especially.
Only about 4445 to go now ... keep 'em coming! : )

I haven't really had much time to process many more of my Russian pics. Shame on me :) I just uploaded 4 more into my portfolio, maybe I will get some done over the Christmas break.

Wonderfull and very special images!
How do you do that, taking these great pictures of people in all kind of situations with the right background in a meaningfull pose? Is it your eye that sees what might be good? Do you wait until a sitution comes to you?
Really would like to learn about that: my images of persons don't turn out that way at all.

Jörg, In Russia it is nearly almost possible to point your camera in any direction and you have a good pic :)
No. Really, I took 5000 pics while I was there in 3 weeks so some of them had to turn out okay. That's what I usually do, take as many pics as I can and hope that something turns out okay.

Great Pictures Gary!! Its nice to be able to see other parts of the World without going there. Your Photography is one of a kind! That is one reason i love this site so much. Thanks for sharing. I havent been on here very much due to surgery from injuries i recived when i was in Iraq. I hope to recover fast and enter some challenges soon. Happy Shooting. Aubrey.
