Hi all, I'm new to the forum (first post!) and semi-new to stock photography (trying to build a portfolio), although I have been shooting photos in general for about six years now. I am mostly a band photographer, so I'm trying something new!
Anyway, it seems to me that some aspects of stock can get expensive quickly---model and property releases, equipment, etc, all things I never had to worry about before with bands---so I was wondering if any of you were going to do anything differently in 2009 to save some money due to the economy? I read an intersting article the other day that had some neat suggestions, but I thought I would ask and see if you guys had any ideas on how to cut some costs in the new year.

Hello and welcome to DPC! It's a wonderful community, especially as you get more involved.
The way I plan on cutting costs in 2009 is to get more photo shoots and save more.

I mean in the sense of having to pay a model or a property owner, sorry. I'm used to shooting for the cost of little else aside from a camera and a lens, so this is all kind of new to me. |

The simple answer is - don't shoot anything that someone's demanding money for a release on. I've never paid for a release and there's only very few situations I can imagine myself doing so in the future - it would have to be on something I was pretty damn sure of making the costs back. |
