I'm considering a new HP LP2475W 24" TFT Monitor, but would like to run my old monitor as well, so I need a dual output graphics card.

My question is do I need 512MB ram on the card? I never, ever game on my pc, only use it for photoshop, general surfing etc and occasional video editing

Unless anyone has any other recommendations around that budget

cheers
Robert

eta motherboard has AGP 8x slot

eta again ordered a Sapphire HD 3650 512MB card so no need to reply now :)

YOu need a card that can run two monitors. The number of outputs on the card don't really tell you that - my mobo has 3 outputs for video and it will run only 1 monitor, so I got a new card - it has 3 outputs but says it can only run 2 at a time.

My main editing machine has 256Mb on the vid card and I can run dual monitors without an issue.

I'd be VERY cautious of an HP monitor for editing. One came with my PC( I think the monitor you're looking at) and while the images displayed on it looked stunning, it sucked for editing as it was too contrasty (for lack of a better description). When I looked at images I edited using that screen on another pc with a 'normal' screen the images looks terrible. Brightness and contrast were both off.

I'd recomend an Acer or Samsung LCD. And from most of what i've read CS4 works with fewer issues with nVidia graphics chips. You can get really nice 8600 level cards for $50-70, sometimes less with rebates from tiger or newegg.

Yep, the HD 3650 can run two monitors independently

The HP LP2475W 24" TFT Monitor has got some good reviews and has a H-IPS panel which is supposedly particularly suited to photo editing. The only complaints against it are it needs to be calibrated before use which is fine as I have a calibration tool.

How about the ATI 4670, 1 GB video RAM, you can pick them up really cheap, have dual digital outputs AND they support Stream technology which future patches of Photoshop CS4 will support. One would hazard a guess that a few Adobe products will end up using Stream technology cus its so damn fast!

Edit - Oh darn.. just read the part about it being AGP.. the 4670 is PCI-e only :(

That monitor looks very different from what I got - HP W2408

Mine has the typical for HP these days very very shiny screen. I don't know if that was an issue or not, but a highly reflective wscreen isn't good in a room with windows.
