White Balance Lens Cap
Interesting Idea--kinda pricey though, especially for a collection of lenses. But maybe for the main walk around lens....
commenter said coffee filters work, too--have not tried that. Has anyone else? |

Yea--I think it just came out--price point is way too high. I expect it won't be too long before it drops. |

Why couldn't you just modify your lense cap with something like a cutout of a milk jug? All that is needed is something that is milky (no pun intended) white to shoot the lighting through.

Alot of people use a coffee filter over the front of the lens, or I have heard of a pringles can, or a coffee can lid. I prefer an Expodisk myself.

| I have an Expodisk myself that works really well. I like that it comes attached to a cord to wear around your neck. This way as the lighting changes you have it handy to set a new WB exposure with |

Yes, but why pay so much when you can make one yourself. |

Seems to me that if they made it as a BODY cap you'd only need one...

I bought this very similar lens cap last month on eBay for basically the price of shipping and handling. I haven't actually used it yet but it looks like it should work. I can follow up after checking it. I figured a milk carton wouldn't work because it probably has to be 18% gray. Assuming it works properly the only negatives I see so far are it appears to be double-threaded but it isn't, so its filter thread mounting ring has to be removed to add a CPF or ND filter (it's too wide to use without its included mounting ring) and it extends the lens about 1/4".
(ETA: I bought several items from the same seller at the same time (CPF, extension tubes, step-up rings, flash diffuser, reflector kit, cordless and corded remotes, flash mount 3 way level) because they were useful photography gadgets and you save $1 for each additional item. I have no connection to them so I hope it's OK to post this "ad".

| It doesn't have to be 18% grey. I have used custom white balance just using a sheet of typing paper. Shoot the frame and select it, works great. You can use white or grey for custom WB. |
