In Norway (and no doubt Germany too) it is said that elves or pixies or some sort of magical little people dance in the shadows at the edge of the forest. A friend told me about how her daughter, on reaching the ripe old age of about seven or eight and breeching the walls of self-awareness, looked out of the car window while driving by the forest edge and said: "They're not there any more."

So thanks for taking us back to the magic.

Thank you, Peter, very much. I do still believe in elves and pixies and unicorns.

Aaawwww! That's so sweet!

And Peter, with regards to your link about noise:

:-)

Good read, by the way.

which link about noise was this?

Re: noise - you're an engineer (whatever that means, as there are several different ways to be an engineer, such that I even had it on my passport as occupation once because it was a usefully generic and imortant-sounding name) so you might be interested in this sort of thing

OMG! I just submitted to a Free Study (bites nails) I only entered once before. I'm a wreck!

I like entering the Free Studies more than the weekly challenges - Good Luck!

I tend to get lost among so many awesome shots, but is a nice one, one I am proud of anyway...
...and thanks for the encouragement, Sara

I have a shot in for FS and I'm sure it's going to take a beating. I think the shot is really cool though. That means the world won't spin out of control this time. Your toilet seat should be ok this time Deb.

LOL! Thanks for the reassurance, Bob. :-) And good luck, Deb! Fret not over the score. In fact, go to your preferences and turn scores off now. Makes the week so much more pleasant!

You're funny Deb - maybe after 100 challenges I can do that - I'm still hitting the button on my low 4 score in Asia

I find that I don't fret nearly as much if I just leave the darn score thingie off. I'll check late in the first day, turn it back off, then check again as those posting get near 100 votes. Then the day before rollover. That's enough for me.

I like Free Study. I can use what I like from a months worth of rubbish, and come up with a real drossie shot.

Then, that score is added to the FSM and I can look up at all those people above me, knowing I can't fall a lot lower.

I'm lying really, I just like Free Studies:)

'Tis very nearly the New Year here, so I'm going to go watch my neighbors fire off fireworks from the warmth and comfort of the upstairs window. Decided not to freeze my butt off trying to get pictures.

Happy New Year and best wishes for good things to come! You guys are a great bunch to hang with - thanks!

Happy New Year to you all!

My FS is sucking right along. I really don't think it deserves this low of a score, it's a lovely, humorous image. I know DPC hates humor, but it's simple, sharp and has pretty colors. LOL!

Happy New Year back at y'all!

I know 2008 was a terrific year for me all 'round from the photography front......'nother ribbon, new lens, first 7+, Master's Challenge.....blew away a lot of my DPC goals, sold some work, got juried locally.....

I went to bed last night after the first three views and votes had my FS at 6.3333, but it's now at 5.2727.....oh well, I like it and like Kelli said....it's simple, sharp, and has pretty colors! LOL!!!

It'll probably dump me down the ladder a few rungs in the FSM, but I had a lot of fun there, and I *FINALLY* managed to break my streak of not being able to break 6.0 in a FS.

I actually got four of them this year!

I dunno if I'm really going to set further DPC goals per se, I'll continue with the ones that I have that mainly just deal with my striving to do better, but seeking enjoyment and fulfillment over scores.

I've managed to pretty much achieve everything I could have imagined or wanted, and I'm very happy about that.

I guess what I really want to say is that through DP Challenge, and TS in particular, I've grown so much as a photographer, and the most important part of that is that I like who I am as a photographer, am comfortable with that, and am constantly moving forward in where this love of the craft is taking me.

Thanks, guys!

Happy New Year all. Hey Deb, I always keep my scores turned off. I never know what my score is until the challenge has ended. You're so right, it makes the week so much more pleasant. The way I figure it, if you have a bad score, you only have to be disappointed once instead of all week.

I really do like my shot though!!!!

happy new year! My free study has a 5.7 and a fave! And I got a great comment from Deb on my Transparency shot. Nice way to start 09. :)

Nail biter update: It's in the 6's! I know this because I didn't take Deb's advice.

I'm working away at the FS.

You have rated 60 of 406 images (15%) in this challenge.

You go, girl! (That's to Deb, not you Bob...) But you go, too, Bob! I'm going to start into the Free Study here in a bit. I enjoyed the Transparency challenge. Not voting in the Elderly challenge (how can you critique someone's relative?) but I did view all the entries and enjoyed seeing the many faces in that one. Nice FS, Don!
