I'll be there for sure! Just a heads up, last year it was about -10 with the wind chill. If anyone is planning on making a weekend of it let me know and I can set you up with some other places to get the eagles. If you need any other info let me know! |

There are quite a few eagles back in the area already! If the weather continues the way it has been, it should be a really good year for eagles! I'm going out this weekend with our local photowalk group to check out some other areas to get eagle shots. Eagle Days is about a month away! They haven't posted a schedule yet, but it's usually the same every year. They have shuttle service from the mall to the river that picks up around every 15 minutes. The indoor bird shows are usually an hour long. I have yet to go to one, because I always get to the door just minutes after it starts!! The Native American dancers usually perform all day.
I hope you guys can come!!! |

I will keep that in mind, Last GTG we had for Eagles temps were -5 No idea what the windchill was that morning but I do remember being shocked at how cold it actually was because it was already March I wasn't exactly dressed for that kind of weather and even left my gloves at home.
here are a couple of shots from that day, Eagles were not very active but the ice and steam off the river were.
I plan on driving down for this unless we have weather like we are getting today. What a mess again. |

I just got back from Keokuk, and I spotted a few eagles. There are several good spots I scoped out today for those of you that can make it!
Here's a shot of the water/electric plant in Keokuk. This is the area where you can see a ton of eagles.

They finally posted the schedule for the weekend. Here's the link, Bald Eagle Days.
The eagles are already back in the area. A friend of mine just got back from lock and dam 18 and said there were more eagles than he could count! I just got back from the park and saw just a few. (I live in between lock and dam 18 and 19.) |

A bump is to get the thread back onto the front page so it can be seen by people who may not have stumbled across it already.

It's a small world! My in-laws live in Nauvoo, IL - not too far from Keokuk. I'll have to keep my eyes open for eagles when we head back at Christmas... |

Another great place in Illinois to view Bald Eagles is in Utica Illinois at Starved Rock State Park. They have a series of locks and there are some great bluffs near by for nesting etc. Check it out!Starved Rock

I just went to Nauvoo yesterday! Got some wine, then when to the candy store and got some fudge and caramels!
Be safe when you travel, we're getting some pretty nasty weather here! Which just also happens to be good for seeing ealges! (go figure.) :P |

Yummmm - wine and candies! :o) You be safe, too. It's nasty here in Indiana, but not near as bad as you guys... |

It's snowin here in Dubuque now and all I can say is WOW! It finally started about 11pm. I don't think I've ever seen it snow this hard in the 15 years I've lived here. There was 2" on the ground in about 30 min. Last year snowfall records were broken here. This year so far has surpassed last year to date. Global warming my ass.

If anyone is doubting making the trip, hopefully some of these pics will change your mind. Keep in mind that these aren't the best quality, and they're on a Picasa website, but in this case it's quantity, not quality! :) (Hopefully you'll get what I mean when you look at them.)
