In the second week of January I'll be taking a trip to Boston. When I'm there I'd like to buy myself a 300D/Digital Rebel.
Can anyone recommend any good shops to buy one from? What I think I'll try and do is ring up just before I go and reserve it, so I can get it ASAP when I get there.
Any advice will be gratefully received. I'm really keen to get one, but I don't want to spend all of my trip wandering around camera shops in the cold!

Why not try to get the camera before your trip? Unless it's super expensive where you live.
Don't know about you but most new items have learning curves. It would be cool to learn the settings and practice before taking a new camera on a trip.

faidoi: Camera-wise, the currency conversion rate is $1 = £1, which sucks.

Thanks Konador. As you say, it sucks. :-)
Basically, even including full UK import duty, I could buy a 300D for ~£700 from the US, rather than £900 here. I'm also hoping for a slight reduction in January.
It will be a steep learning curve, but I'll also take my A70 to use, just in case.

Hi! I live in the Boston area. Hunt Photo and Video in Melrose (Just north of Boston) has that camera (the whole kit) for about $999.00. I haven't shopped around so I don't know if that is good or not.
If you have time... write me an email, and maybe we could even meet up to say hello :)

Online in the US that's what all the kits are going for, I'm yet to find cheaper.
In Canada, after weeks of price searching I've found that they're exactly the same everywhere $1499 CND for the kit including lens [$1299 for body alone]. If you find a good deal on a regularly priced item, Futureshop has no choice but to beat the price [keep that in mind].

For the money I think a 300D / Digital Rebel is much better value.
Also, I can borrow a number of Canon EF lenses from my father until I can afford my own glass.

The Rebel 300D is $999 everywhere in the US right now and I don't think the camera will go down in price in January. Usually the prices come down at the end of February after the new models are announced. Good luck though and have fun on your trip. |
