So I power up the beast for a days work today and my 8GB card gets formatted and when I look at the shots remaining window on the 1Ds it says 206 ... well that ain't right, so I reformat the card, same thing 206, I shoot off a couple of shots now it says 202, I reformat the card again and the shots remaining window still says 202.. So I suspect the card, change it for my 4GB card and the shots remaining say 202, I switch from RAW to small JPG mode and... you guessed it, the shots remaining STILL says 202...
I'm confused, I need help. Please anyone have any suggestions before I go cookoo

maybe it's counting down to zero and then it's gonna blow up? |

That's because you are getting close to 9999 before it switches to folder #2.

So basically when i get to the end of this countdown my camera will not explode?
It will just make a new folder called 'folder 2' and then will be fine again?
I thought my camera had over 10K on it already, If this is the case I will be extremely happy. Thanks

Just ran a check..
Shots remaining counter - 187
Actuation Counter: 19276
On the rear screen above the word 'folder' it says 100
Any other thoughts?
Do it need to go to Canon?

What is the last image number you took? I would almost bet that it is numbered 9812 or so. What Nick was trying to tell you, is the image number when it gets close to 9999 will only count what will fit into that folder, then it will make a new folder 101 and start the remaining shots over at whatever it will hold on your card. If you dont worry about the number on the shot, then reset the counter and it will show the proper amount. I have ran into this on my 1DMKII before.

Fire off 188 shots and see what happens. That ought to sort it out, one way or the other. If it is new folder time, the it starts a new folder. No problem...
If it is going to quit working, then it quits and you send it in to Canon. At least you won't be in the middle of something important....
If it is going to blow up, use the remote....
