I'll throw a rant in for that one, It bumped CC to # 2 which now the Brewers wont get that first rounder.
Other than that, I am not at all bothered by it.

If you do the math it comes out to:
$23 Million per year
$657k per game.
$91k per inning

He's a good pitcher but damn not that good. I don't think pro athletes should make this much money.

I didn't check your math cause I'm sure that it's spot on, but I do have a question ... are your 'per game' and 'per inning' figures taking into account games/innings he'll actually pitch in? Or do those figures include all Yankees games/innings over the entire season? So, theoretically, he'll be making $657k for sitting in the bull pen doing absolutely nothing?

I didn't do the actual math I just copied it from what I saw on the TV. I don't know what they did to figure it out.

interesting ... I may have to take on that 'math' challenge myself, just out of total curiosity! I think it's really sad that they pay athletes that kind of money when normal, hard working folks struggle to take their families to a game ... the salaries raise ticket prices, concession prices and parking prices ...

$23 million a year = approximately $142,000 per game on a 162-game season...

R.

ETA: I just got an e-mail from a member telling me how clueless I was, that he's a PITCHER and they don't play 162 games a year.

To which I respond, "EXACTLY, Einstein! If he played 162 games a year he'd make 142k per game. Which means, in response to the question above (were the figures for all games, or just ones pitched in?) that the quoted per-game figures are for per game pitched, based on estimated number of games over the course of the season."

I just did the math to figure it out, see...? (all in good fun of course...)

As a Yankee fan the money doesn't shock me. This does:

Playoff Stats for CC Sabathia:

W-L: 2-3
ERA: 7.92!!!!
Baserunners allowed per 9 innings: 19.8!!!!!!

At least now I have a few more reasons to 'hate' the yanks.

Oakland's 2008 payroll. <50 mil
Yankees >200mil

Both missed the playoffs.

Here's a Christmas toast to overpriced free agents who flame out in a Yankee's uniform.

The Yanks are not afraid to pay and reinvest in their team , Unlike the A's who take their profits and put it in their pockets and also take revenue share and pocket that too

Why did you buy a 5d instead of a Rebel ? Don't they both take photo's Merry Christmas
