Well, I decided that in order to measure fame you need something to measure it against. I used scalvert - I mean, nobody gets more famous than him... :-D So I rounded up his stats and got the following 100% profile;
400 forum posts per month
3000 profile views per month
25000 total image views per month
1000 favorited as photographer
If you achieved these numbers, then your score according to my formula would be 100%. Because of my rounding up, even scalvert himself doesn't score 100%, but I have to allow room for expansion.
I built in some weightings, as I thought 'favorite photographer' (weighting 60%) is more important to the fame index than how many posts you make to the forum (weighting 10%)
So it's "percentage of a scalvert". Unfortunately, I'm only 3% of a scalvert. Or 0.03 SCAL in standard units. |

I'm assuming you multiply by 100, or something, after you do all of this?
(Incidentally, I got scalvert's number as .355 -- I was checking to see if I was doing this correctly. Obviously I'm not?) |

I am not sure I can ever live up the Scalvert Standard (is the Scalvert Standard, Metric or English)?

Yes, it's a percentage, so multiply by 100 to get the actual percent.
Originally posted by karmat: (Incidentally, I got scalvert's number as .355 -- I was checking to see if I was doing this correctly. Obviously I'm not?) |
For scalvert;
Membership months 46
Forum posts 18143
Profile views 122875
Total image views 1138313
Favourited 812
Plugging these figures in gives;
(((18143 / 46) / 400) * 0.1) +
(((122875 / 46) / 3000) * 0.1) +
(((1138313 / 46) / 25000) * 0.2) +
((812 / 1000) * 0.6)
= 0.8728 * 100 = 87.28% for scalvert
Using your stats (karmat) gives me 11.47% - your 'favorited' figure of 80 drags it down a bit.

That's what I just got for me as well, well, within 100th.
I have a different number of months for scalvert, but I'm not sure what SC sees is the same as the members see -- do you see a month/year or just a year for joining?
(Not that it matters, now I'm just curious) |

You are 15.71% of a scalvert.
:-D
Because I've attached high weighting (60%) to 'favorited photographer' with a benchmark of 1000 favs, if you're a lot less than 1000 then it's going to impact your final score. Of course, the formula is such that it would allow the weightings to be changed around to make things more even.
I've got to turn that formula into a web page lol! |

lol you people and your math!! I recognize every single name in this thread, so all y'all are famous in my opinion ;p
ETA: I'm pretty sure that I'm about 0.00001%-ish of a scalvert...lol I don't even want to know.

Ah, you're right, I got his months number wrong, it should be 58 months (is that correct?) Which means that scalvert is only 79.3% of a scalvert. He's got some work to do...

I'm not sure if percentage is the best way to this statistic as it is relative which can skew data IMO. Having some sort of index where points are given appropriated by weight seems to me to be a more absolute method of measuring. Not that I really care, I just like math, maybe because I'm the engineering nerd type, it keeps life interesting.

Oh, you're right of course. I just thought measuring things in scalverts was more fun... :D
And since you're an engineer, any idea what the application process is for making a standard unit SI official? :)

JH: which numbers do you get for librodo (one of the better photogs on DPC IMO)?
He has entered 149 challenges and have been favorited 5733 times... That ought to make him fairly popular! :) |

I added favorited photographs & favorited by photographers - my bad!
Not bad result though! I guess he would be a worthy opponent in a face-to-face. But unfortunately he is not to be seen too often here these days.
I'm more than likely lurking in the 10th's - LOL |

You're only 2.3% of a Manny.
Is this where we split between Manny units and Scalvert units, like imperial and metric? |

Maybe it would have been better for people like me if you had measured me up against a valid unit, like for instance Kelvin (sounds like a familiar unit of measure!) :D
