My mom got me a G3 for Christmas. Its my first digital camera and I can't wait to start using it. She let me play with it for a minute to make sure it works properly. I was a little disturbed by the noise it made when it tries focusing on something. It makes these mechanical sounds, just before it makes the beep and the "focus square" thing turns green, indicating its focused. Now I imagine this is the lenses moving in an attempt to focus but it seemed quite loud. I was wondering if this is something all G3s do .. or Santa sent me a broken G3. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

My previous camera was a G2 and it also made noise when focusing. Sort of like a small motor noise I guess is how I would describe it. Without actually hearing how it sounds I can't tell you for sure but I would probably think it is the normal noise of the lens parts attempting to gain focus.

I have a G3 and I must admit that I cannot recall any noticeable noise at all. I am not saying that it makes no noise, but that there is none that I recall or would think as unusual. |

Like ogenm and wackybill, my G3 also does not make a noise that disturbs me. Maybe you should try to find another G3 in a shop and compare its noise.
Added:
I was able to check my G3 during lunch: marginal noise, just enogh to notice that the focusing-system is working.

Thanks for responding. I went into a store nearby and looked at a G5 .. it was hard to hear with the background noise in the store, but if I put my ear up to it I heard the noise (which is just a small motor noise). Hopefully its just me over reacting. Thanks for all the help.
