isn't it beautiful...?! ;)
(S)He's quite a biest though! My Fuji S3's body is kinda heavy and pudgy or so i thought, but it feels quite compact compared to the Mamiya...
But still, I'm really over the moon, it's been my dream to own one of these and i got a really decent deal off of ebay, i dropped 530-ish € (including a 70€ paypal voucher) on it including the finder, winder, 120 roll film back and the gorgeous 1.9/80 Secor C lens (around 45mm on 35mm film)!
Guess you gonna see lots of scanned slides from me in the future...:)
cheers!

Wonderful camera, I had the Pentax version when I was in Japan, I bet you look at the back after shooting to chimp then realise its not a digital.. Last time I shot film I must of looked several times at the back of the camera.. Have fun with her.

Congrats Christoph, keep us posted on how you get on with it! If I could justify the expense I'd definitely get myself one of these too, just something about them...even the sound of the shutter is cool! :o)

thank you guys, i'm already enjoying it a lot, even though i have to keep reminding myself that every single shot i take costs me around 1.20€ or so i calculated...:/
anyways, looking through her viewfinder was worth the money already, it's just so wonderfully bright and big!
oh and anyone knows if i can switch the film back for a digital one (not that i will ever be able to afford one, but hell, i may have more dreams, no? and renting one is also a possibility...) i know it's possible with the mamiya 645AFD, but haven't ever seen or found someone using one on the 645pro TL...

| Pity one can't put a digital back on these machines. It bet she's fun to use. Wouldn't it be nice if some third party company started making economical digital backs for some of the good medium format film cams? |

good morning andrew! :D
that's exactly where my last question was aiming for. there ARE digital backs out there, mamiya itself produces one, the latest version is the ZD back featuring 22MP as well as leaf.
I'm just not sure if it's fits my older body...

Christoph, Good evening! Aha... My brief look around recently suggested that the Mamiya digital backs were to be mated with the new bodies. But I am going to do a bit more research to make sure I know what I'm talking about.
I guess there are patent rights issues or something. Perhaps not enough demand. But I would have thought that there were a lot of old film Mamiya cams about that have been chucked in favour of digital cams. I check Craigslist.com in NYC a lot and there are lots of Mamiya's being sold (price not very cheap yet) and lenses....

LOL! I should be checking into it! :D
@pineapple: yah, most of the digital backs will fit the Mamiya AFD and RB/RZ models only, but i just ran across a discussion, where some people were fighting over that. interesting read and at the end one guy comes up with a few backs that might fit the older models, too. not sure though and it's probably not gonna happen in my case anyways, i mean i bought this great cam because i wanna get serious with shooting film in the first place. still interested because you never know...;)

I just picked up the first rolls of film from the lab! WOHOOO
the medium format negatives are stunning compared to 35mm!
however getting them digitalized was a pain in the a$$.
since i don't have a scanner handy i had to improvise by photographing the negatives with my fuji and a macro lens (and a self made repro setup).
the first results were horrible until i noticed they were much better after i built a repro desk with some pieces of paper for diffusing the light, setting up a flash underneath and photographing the negatives from the tripod above.
especially the color negatives were really hard to reproduce in photoshop.
still far away from perfect results but it's a start...;)
more to follow soon.
