OK, maybe not buy. Rent perhaps is more accurate.
I am looking for an assistant for weddings and and occassionally other shoots (sports T&I, HS reunions, etc). Some shooting will be available but it's primarliy an assistant's job - fetch and hold stuff, setup/teardown, etc. Part time of course as I don't have 200 events for '09 (thank gawd!).
Should be pretty steady and other things can be learned such as sales, framing, studio lighting, editing, etc. if there is interest.
Located in Beaver, PA 15009 and most of the work is here or between here and Pittsburgh. PM me if you are interested or know of someone who is.
Next wedding is January 3 and I have two bridal shows in January where assistance would be welcomed!

If you need a summer intern....:):):):) Course then I'd have to find somewhere to live...
ETA: can't do it now, by any means, I have college. But I'm dead serious about the summer internship thing.

Blast, I'd do it too if I were in that neck of the woods again.

I have work year round so need help all the time. Finding help is the hardest part of this business thing.
My most recent assistant helped with weddings (running, posing, second shooting during the ceremony) and unpacking orders, framing and projection sales. On events he'd run the table (forms, money, what have you) and place the orders afterwards.
I have a guy that I use once in a while now but he's busy and starting his own photo biz. He's really good on the computer, editing and such and can shoot independently.
I've had a few others in the past that, well, shall we say didn't work out. Don't have transportation, say they knew PS but in reality had no idea of how to use it, would literally sit and watch me work at weddings, not show up, etc. I don't know how such folks can get through life with work ethics like that.
I think the perfect person would be a stay at home mom looking for some money and to get out of the house 3 or 4 days/nights a month. Perhaps as the economy sinks the pool of workers will improve?
In a pinch I can call in a senior that I shot this summer but they're not trained or interested in being an assistant so while they are a warm body that can run and fetch they can't do much else.
OK, I'm done bemoaning my situation now. Got to get packed up for a family port tonite!

Okay......I live outside of Carlisle, which is 15-20 minutes west of Harrisburg.
I have been doing photography for about 30 years, digital really seriously for 2 1/2 years, and I mention this so that you know I have a good grasp on how much I *DON'T* know.
You know me from the forums as opinionated and strong-willed, but I have also been looking for well over a year for an opportunity to both learn and be "Second Camera" as semi-candids seem to be a strong point of mine.
I know I cannot get experience without a benefactor as I have zero opportunities falling into my lap for a first time pro photog.
Everything I've done has been limited to fine art sales, and limited at that.
My technical knowledge and equipment is adequate, but nothing special.
I do have a family (13 y.o. daughter) and a life to a certain extent, but I also don't have any hobbies and/or vile habits outside of my photography.
I'm part time service clerk in a John Deere dealer so this time of year I have more freedom schedule-wise.
When the grass is growing, I have no life, but it grinds to a halt at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, and I am not required to work Saturdays at all.
I may be of some use if not able to meet all your needs.
My e-mail's on my bio page, and/or PM me for a phone.
So if you're desperate, I'm here!......8>)

No vile habits? What fun is that? LOL
Beaver pa is about 4 miles from the Ohio line. Easy to get to via the turnpike (last exit, go south on 60 about 8 miles). But getting here from carlisle is about 4 hours, plus of course 4 back. Makes for a LONG day. But what doesn't killya makes you stronger, right?
I'm not desperate - yet anyway. This saturday's wedding is covered and the next one is a small affair (jan 3) that requires no help. I've got a meeting next week regarding Feb 14 so I don't know what to expect from that one yet.

I don't know why I thought you were east of me.....
Yeah, it's a looooooooong haul to the Ohio border, and a lot of trucks on that road.
Well, keep me in mind anyway......I'm certainly not saying I won't travel with some planning.

You afraid of a few trucks?
My inlaws live in Baltimore so I've been back and forth over the turnpike uncountable times in teh past 12 years, plus a few trips on 68 through WVa and I'll take the turnpike anyday, especially in the winter. 68 is a lonely road in places. the turnpike has an 'oasis' every 40 miles or so (the newest ones are pretty nice but I sill like the way ohio does it better).
I've been to carslisle a number of times for a parts-o-rama, usually in April but that's been a few years now. My wife went to school in Shippensburg so I've been there 1/2 dozen times too. Overall it's a nice area, even more rural than around me. |
