Nope, you can't have a blizzard ... cause if you do get one then it's on its way to my house next ... and I surely don't want one!!! I hate snow ... |

I've just watched some of the news video's. That's no blizzard. It may be an "event" for you guys, but not a blizzard.
Come up here in February, then you'll see what a blizzard is- and you'll go running back home as fast as you can.
ETA: Of course we don't have to put up with hurricanes up here. (You can keep those).

In Louisiana, 8 inches IS a blizzard :) It very rarely snows there. Maybe once every 10 years or so. And, they better hope it doesn't freeze really hard. They just aren't equipped to deal with that kind of weather. :-/
Kenny,
That's about how much it was last time. Everyone outside throwing snowballs yet?? LOL!! I remember thinking my neighbors were out of their gourds. Grown people (and old people) outside playing in the snow, freezing their arses off. Funny what people do when you rarely see snow isn't it? :) |

It was amazing. When I dropped off my 10yr old at school you could hear the kids in the yard from a block away ! The teachers let them stay in the yard for about 40 minutes ! My hand almost froze off using my video cam. (I don't own a pair of gloves !)
It was raining when I left the house this morning so I didn't bring my new D90 with high def video. However, I always carry my Sanyo Xacti waterproof video camera. Got about 15 minutes of video of the kids at their best !
I'll post on youtube and my Smugmug late tonight.
12:12pm and now just a regular, cold, cloudy New Orleans day with some snow remaining on ground!
Oh...don't forget...last time it snowed like this in December, we got Katrina in September !

I was hoping to see some New Orleans pictures of the snow fall. I will have to post some of mine later from New Iberia and Lafayette. It was very short lived, but fun none the less for this Minnesota native! The kids had a blast!! |

I too was a displaced northerner growing up in such remote outposts as Cankton (where?), Broussard, Carencro... before we moved east -- to New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It snowed down there in Feburary of 88. It was surreal. Every eight to ten years, Louisiana gets an inch or two -- just enough to roll around in and cause absolute chaos.
EDIT: Eight inches?! Holy crap, I missed that statistic!

A frozen world warms my heart so. Every day perfectly preserved, like a photograph, a wonderful and glorious white photograph that will never fade. |

LOL crazy weather everywhere, we have a winter storm advisory here...
WINTER STORM WARNING: City of Calgary Issued at 10:48 AM MST FRIDAY 12 DECEMBER 2008
10 TO 25 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW WITH BLOWING SNOW TODAY AND TONIGHT. THIS IS A WARNING THAT DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS...LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.
AN INTENSE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER SOUTHERN BC THIS MORNING WILL MOVE SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGH MONTANA TONIGHT. AN AREA OF SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM IS DEVELOPING IN THE NORTHERN FOOTHILLS THIS MORNING AND WILL SPREAD INTO SOUTHERN ALBERTA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. 10 TO 15 CM OF SNOW IS FORECAST ACROSS THE REGIONS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WITH UP TO 20 CM OVER HIGHER ELEVATIONS. IN ADDITION, A COLD FRONT ACROSS NORTHERN ALBERTA THIS MORNING WILL DROP SOUTHWARD THROUGH ALBERTA TODAY. BEHIND THE COLD FRONT STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS OF 40 TO 60 KM/H WILL DRAW COLD ARCTIC AIR ACROSS THE PROVINCE AND DROP DAYTIME HIGHS INTO THE MINUS TWENTIES FOR THE WEEKEND. THESE STRONG WINDS COMBINED WITH FRESH SNOW WILL PRODUCE POOR VISIBILITIES IN BLOWING SNOW ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHEASTERN ALBERTA WHERE WINDS GUSTING TO 80 KM/H MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. AS THE TEMPERATURE PLUMETS AND WINDS PERSIST ON SATURDAY, WIND CHILL VALUES OF -35C TO -40C CAN BE EXPECTED. |
