Hey, does anyone know of any online location for the purchase of studio lighting and/or flashes? New or used, it doesn't really matter. Come to that, I really know absolutely nothing about how all that works, so, any suggestion on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Try B&H, Adorama, or any of the major online photo merchants.

As for specific equipment suggestions, it really depends on what you want to do with it. You might want to consider a kit if you are getting started. Some of the Smith-Victor 2 light kit start at about $300. I know some people here swear by the Alien Bees, but I am not familiar with them. I used to use Speedotron lighting when I was working, but that stuff is way to expensive unless you are making money at this or just have a lot of extra money to spend.

I agree with Spazmo's advice. But, if you don't know anything about it, why are you going to buy some? Is it:

Seriously, though, look at some review sites, check out some magazine articles, etc. Here are a couple of review sites:

I just got a kit from B and H. SP Systems, lights, stands, relectors, umbrellas. All for right around $400. It's great and B and H are really good to work with.
