I spent some time last night working on this image. I just wanted to put it up here and request feedback. I am on the side of allowing Photoshop edits, not to create digital art, but to make a photograph as good as it can be. He is my example from last night! I had to recreate the right side of the photo, as it was cut off in the original image.

good work, did you print it?
wondering how all the cloning, and painting translates to the printer...
also - i would like to see this shot from the other side - so you can see the babies pudgy faces ;}

| Excellent job, certainly as seen at screen resolution! The only thing I don't care so much for is the bright flat background. I think I'd tone done the tiny flare above her elbow and add either tone, color, or drop in different background altogether. |

I did this edit for someone else. I am going to print it today, matte it, and make a custom hardwood frame with Bubinga (an African hardwood). I will find out after while if it prints well. I usually find something that needs touched up when printing a heavily edited photo. I'll let you know how the extensive cloning worked out at high res.

At screen resolution it looks like you have some haloing around most of the image ... that's sometimes made better (but sometimes worse) in the printing process. I think a tonal difference of 5-15% between the subject and the background will be enough to keep the subject distinct but not artificial-looking. It's more of a problem where the subject is darker (jeans, etc.) -- you kind of expect the haloing with their heads backlit.
Toning with a warm color also might lessen the effect.
