I would like to have my Canon EOS-5D sensor cleaned before Christmas and I've hesitated because I don't want to be without it for a long time if I mail it somewhere. I've tried the over the counter cleaning solutions and they're not working well enough. Does anyone know of a place in the Seattle area I can take it and drop it off for a couple days? THANK YOU!

I don't know the answer, but if anyone knows where to go in the Philadelphia area for this? My Nikon D2h needs cleaning!

Good question, I too am in the Seattle area and why I don't need mine cleaned yet I'm sure I will eventually.

I figured there must be a company in such a large city that would clean sensors, but I haven't been successful in finding it... The poor 5D is so overdue... :( LOL

Do it yourself, it's only scary the first time.

Yeah, I'd recommend doing it yourself. You obviously need to be careful but it's not that hard.

Search for "Sensor Cleaning Swab" on ebay. They are different sizes so just find the correct size for your camera

Very straight forward and then in 3 weeks time when there is dust on the sensor again you can clean it again :)

I have cleaned it myself, it just didn't seem to do a very good job...

Haven't done this myself (only one lens, so no swapping-dust-entry opportunities, yet).

But this site goes thru all the options, pros/cons of a variety of products, and even describes what methods each camera mfgr uses.....

Thank you - I just called but no answer. Their message says they'll call me back. Thank you! Hopefully they clean sensors on Canon too!

Did you use the Copperhill cleaning method?

Be aware that it often takes several tries to get all the gunk off. Some specs can be very sticky and difficult to remove. It's almost like they get baked on.

It's also possible to have a defective sensor. My 10D had tiny little bubble defects in the glass of the high-pass filter that covers the sensor. They were very small and looked like dust spots. Some of them looked like little bullseye targets. I tried to clean them off several times with no success. I finally sent the camera to Canon and they replaced the sensor and filter for free. Naturally, the new sensor and filter were covered in dust when I got the camera back. But one swipe with a Copperhill swab removed it all, and my camera was finally clean.
