Make sure to INSURE your new gear. Remember anything you make any money with IS NOT covered by homeowners insurance. But most agencies will allow you to cover your equipment seperately.

Hmmmm. had to go to one of the most expensive DSLR's around to find a match to the new Pentax, eh. I thought that was the leaves rustling outside, guess its just the Canon boys shaking in their boots.
:)

More expensive camera's to compete with the little Pentax. Thought that was a waterfall outside, guess it was just the Nikon folks wetting themselves.

Haha
The 1DMk2N doesn't use full frame, it uses 1.3x crop (I'm pretty sure the replacement will be full frame, hopefully 12.8MP like the 5D, and that's the one I'll be getting after I get a full time job)
I guess the 30D would be a better match to the Pentax, but IMO they aren't the best feeling camera, not a whole lot better than my XT (which I bought on specs alone, without ever holding one... bad judgement)
edit: Pentax is cool IMO, they have some sweet telephotos and the zoom fisheye is nice. It's a shame they don't have a pro digital body, or some pros would be shooting Pentax to use the lenses.

Do tell. What were the circumstances/environment? Is there anything that us camera-owners can do to prevent this happening to us?

The 10MP K10D is on the way. They are also supposed to have a 12MP coming along next year with Pro features, plus the 645 Digital is finally due out this year.
I'll stop here before we have to move to another thread.
Seriously, hope you get your gear back- or at least your insurance comes through for you. I'd curl up in a little ball and cry like a baby if mine was stolen.

Don't wander around deserted train stations in South Africa at 10:30 on a Friday night doing self-portraits. The bottom line is that some towns are safer than others, and sometimes you just have to learn which is which, the hard way.
To take a positive view on the whole situation, however, it did force me to make the change from my HP Photosmart 945i to the Canon Digital Rebel.

There are places on linbe for registering your stolen gear. Look foran online registry of camera gear so people can search and validate when buying or selling used.

It's a fact that there are several new spam accounts every week, but these are usually nuked very quickly. Often, however, folks just find a thread through a Google search, and register to post a response. |
