Hey all!

Thought you might enjoy this video made from a recent photo shoot of mine, going for three different looks in a very short time period, using just strobe lights. Enjoy!

The Versatility of the Strobe

Nicely done video. I liked the editing at the beginning where you grab all the strobes off the shelf. Left a comment on the Youtube page.

I love the start of the video. The clips & cuts were great.

The photos of the first two models look really good, but I wasn't fond of the lighting on the last model. Maybe you lost some of the ambient daylight and the lighting wasn't balanced to my taste, though you were probably going for the harsh, just not my cup o' tea.

Very well done video. I'm going to keep an eye out for any more you do!

OH, and I see you need tape to hold those P.O.S. remotes together, LOL, so do I.

Thanks for viewing, guys!

Yospiff, saw the comment, thanks! Glad you liked the vid. I did video before I started in photography. I obviously couldn't be filming here, but I did edit.

Strikeslip, I would have liked to do the last model a little differently, but the sun was way below the horizon at that point, and I was having to use the strobes for my sole model light. It's a little harsher than I would go given the option to choose, but I was happy with some of the shots we were able to get anyhow. Thanks again for watching!

Why do you never use three strobes?

Simply loved it,
The video editing is really cool, the way you showed the equipments are wonderful, and for sure I like the Vivitar allot.
I liked the way you feathered the strobes lights, not sure why umbrellas weren't part of the shoots!!
Btw did you use any kind of modifiers? snoots? grids and so on?
The first shooting is my favorite, you really nailed that one, even the picture with the flare is wonderful.
The second one as well is very nice, the third shoot was OK, but I really liked the way you shot from up to down, It was the best out of that shooting, nicely done, keep up the good work.
Cheers,

Robshookphoto, I didn't need to use three strobes to get the look I was going for. No need complicating things. :D I could have used the third to ad backlight, extra hair light, but I didn't want that, so I kept it down to two. Much thanks for watching!

EL-Ghool, Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words!
I did use a simple diffuser (that came with the SB-800) for one of the flashes in both shoots. This was my main model light, so I wanted it to be a bit softer. The second flash, a Vivitar 285Hv, was bare when it was on the background element in the second set, but diffused with... eh hem, tubbaware when it would be directed more at the model for a few other shots in that set.
As for umbrellas, I did have some with me, but I didn't want the light to be too soft for these shoots. For the first one I just had it toned down to 1/34th power and diffused because I had enough ambient for most of the lighting, and I just wanted to pop the model from the background slightly, and the second one I wanted the harder light and shadows because of the look I was going for. The third one wasn't really what I had planned, we had some car trouble and were late to the set, so I just had to go with something else. I agree though, that it is the weakest of the three.
