I just realized that, now that I have the 50mm f/1.8 lens, it would be way cheap and not too bulky to couple this, reversed, with my 60mm macro lens...

So my question is, are these two lenses a good combo for extreme macro work? If so, which lens should be mounted and which one reversed? If not, why? Would I be better off using my 28-75mm Tamron or my 70-200mm f/4L instead? Etc etc etc... This is not an area in which I have any experience. But both the 50 and the 60 are 52mm threads, so it seems like a natural fit. The whole package would be super-light and not too bulky, all in all...

Advice, anyone? Since I am relatively housebound these days, I feel like doing some extreme macro :-)

I am happy to see that you are moving around enough to feel like shooting again. If you can get the two lenses coupled up nose to nose, then it would be a good opportunity to just experiment with shooting with the set up both ways. If you have a couple of 52mm filters that you can scrap, you can make your own coupling by removing the glass and sticking them to each other with epoxy. Step up rings are good for this trick too, and no glass to deal with.
I think that I remember someone posting that you can put the Cannon lenses with the chip in them on the camera and set the aperture, then turn off the camera and remove the lens, and the aperture will stay where you had it set when you turned the camera off.
The older Canon FD lenses can be tricked by putting a little piece of rubber in the opening where the aperture lever sticks out of the back of the lens. A little piece of "O" ring or rubber band works good for that if you can wedge it in the opening to hold the lever. Then you can control the aperture with the aperture ring.

you can get reversing rings to mount the 50mm to just about anything, I mount mine to my 18-55 kit lens and my 70-300 IS lens and both work great with the 50mm being the one that's reversed. I also recently added my Tamron 2X Teleconverter to the setup and WOW does it ever magnify with the 50mm+70-300mm+2X-TC= holy sh!t close lol, see uncropped photo below for a quick shot example.
