I just found out that I can't get my flat bed scanner to work with my new Vista 64 bit computer.
There isn't a driver for it, I have looked.

I am now looking for a good photo scanner with an auto feeder. I don't want to have to open the lid, place the photo, close the lid, push the button, etc for every single print (or even group of them).

I have hundreds of prints to scan, and would like something that can handle at least a few at a time, feeding them in automatically.

I have been looking online, but with very limited success. The one I liked is discontinued and no longer available :-(

Does anyone know of a decent auto feeding photo scanner?

Before you sink bucks into a new scanner,go here and click on the "Supported Scanners" link. If your scanner is listed, and if it does not say that it needs drivers loaded in order to be supported, then download the VueScan trial and let VueScan try to recognize the scanner. It just may work. Vuescan is *great* scanning software.

Brilliant idea, Fritz, and thank you for showing that to me.

Sadly, though, my scanner isn't supported. I have a Canon Lide 30 - their Lide list starts with 35....... the very next incarnation of that scanner :-(

I just downloaded it and tried it anyway, but it isn't happening.

My brother had the same problem last week. He decided to buy a cheap used laptop off of craigslist that ran XP, and continue to use his scanner. He's planning to have everything scanned in the next few months, then get rid of everything, though. Your situation may be different.

Boy, that sucks! Most of the Canon Lide series need drivers loaded anyhow... I know that's the case with my Lide 600. At least there is a Vista driver for the Lide 600. It's too bad there is no applicable driver for the Lide 30, heck, it's not *that* old a scanner.
FWIW, the Lide 600 does a very nice job, but has no provision for auto-feed. I don't personally like auto-feeding for photos because of the risk of transferring particulates to the print during transfer, and the (admittedly small) risk of damage in transfer. Most of the photos I scan are old, though, and delicate, so I'm risk-averse that way. For newer photos, I will use the negs if available.

I've also got an LIDE 30. Nice information to know since I am going to be building a new PC soon.
