Just my 2 cents on this... If this happened to me and I got DQ'd because I didn't check my email for a few days I would be pissed off and depressed about it for sure.

But, you have to realize that random checks like this, especially for ribbon winners, HAVE TO BE DONE. It's the only thing that keeps the competition fair and on the "up and up". And 2 days does seem reasonable since the results are only up for a 7 days, like someone already mentioned. It's just bad luck for this user that's all. Also the fact that he was online several times during the time period also makes it more his/her fault for not checking email.

Maybe a good idea for the site would be to add some kind of warning msg that displays on the front page when you login to the site, if an admin has left a critical message like this for a user? That maybe could have warned the user better?

Rest assured we are considering alternative methods ... it takes time, especially if it involves recoding the home page.

*shrugs*
But if it can ward off problems like this, then I think it'd be worth it. ^_^

I'd like to see it either above or underneath our Current Stats on the front page. Even if they can't check their e-mail, they can send a direct message to the SC and say "I can't get to my e-mail right now!"

It might be helpful for us to even be able to see how many DQ requests our photo's recieved, along with comments/votes.

Kay, I'm done. I know others have alreay said some of this, but I wanted to add.

The only thing that I can think of... since everyone pretty much signs on when you come here. Have a pop up message when that user logins informing him of any important information. Basically some sort Personal Message system.

It would be nice if the Site Council ruled on the legality of the file hmpix sent in. I wouldn't like to see them reverse the decision to DQ the photo at this late date. But I'd like to know if the photo was legal. If he leaves the site without such a ruling there will always be a cloud of suspicion surrounding his submission. If the SC rules the photo legal, then hmpix is a photographer good enough to have earned a ribbon who missed out on it because he didn't check his inbox often enough. If SC rules the photo illegal much of this thread becomes irrelevant.

Good point. I too wonder if the picture was validated.

It will be soon 48 hours since hmpix sent his photo for validation... I don't know if there is something in the rules that set the limit of time for an answer!!! ;)
