I just opened the box.. and the front lens cap was smashed in on one side. You can see the scratches in this image:

I feel terrible!! I had been waiting for this lens for almost 2 weeks. Usually Amazon.com doesnt do such a bad job.
It seems that it wasnt packaged right. The outer bigger box had three big bubble bags but they were all on one side and the lens's box was stranded in one corner with 4 of its sides against the bigger box's walls.
This sux! I am planning to return it tomorrow. I dont even feel like putting it on the body and trying.
Not sure if its a good idea to keep it scratched.. even if it doesnt affect the IQ, I will always feel bad looking at it.. esp since I paid the full price.
Now I will have to wait 2 more weeks for a replacement.
What do you think, should I keep it, or return it??

I've had pretty good luck with getting my money back from amazon - it's happened twice that I've had to return something. I would definitely return it and have them send you a new one. Good luck. Sorry about the rain on your parade! :( |

Amazon is pretty good with customer service and returns so you probably won't have an issue. unfortunately you will have to wait for your new lens but if you speak to a rep you might be able to have them overnight a new lens since it was damaged. Worth a try at least. |

I am hoping for a decent experience. They have been pretty good till date.. actually I have never had to return an item ever.
I am asking for a refund. Cannot wait anymore.
Thanks guys for the concern. It definitely helped reduce the anguish and the anger. |

Glad you got it sorted, I think it is disgusting to get anything in such a condition, maybe the way the package was handled by the post or it could even be from the company.. terrible.
Anyway, Im glad they were decent about it and you have finally got satisfaction.

So as Amazon promised, a replacement lens arrived today. Right on time.
Unfortunately there isnt much daylight left outside to test it, but I managed to capture some semi-macros. Here they are:

Gotta love this lens.. all I am using is manual focus for now and its great;-)
ETA: I didnt realise that the tv remnote is now biting dust after we started using a universal one...eheheh
