I was just reading something today, and I gleaned from something I thought was sort of interesting.
People are capable of doing one of two things: Acting for ourselves, or being acted upon. When we act for ourselves, then we are the ones who decide how we feel and the decisions we make. When we are being acted upon, then we are at the mercy of others who "make" us feel a certain way, or think a certain thing. In essence, we become victims as the opinions of others are imposed upon us.
The final point is, we can choose whether to act for ourselves to to be acted upon - we decide if we want to be victims or not.
How does this relate to DPC? You can't change the masses. Out of thousands of users of DPC, we will have some rude people, some ignorant people, some highly educated people, some uneducated people, some young, some old, some happy, some upset. On the aggregate, you can't change that. But, you can decide whether your decisions on what to enter in a challenge will be swayed by the weekly threads, or whether you want to leave the site because of some rude commenters. You can let yourself be victimized by others, or you can choose to glean what you can from others, and do things the way that works best for you.
I propose we put an end to the "victim" culture.

Well put Steve. And I think ti si very appropriate since over the last two days I left comments on threads were people are wanting to leave b/c of bad comments or no comments.
I second the motion to end the victim culture

Too complicated for me. I'm just a dumb French guy with a grade 7 education.
So I put forth: Kill the whiners.

Good point.
So, what would you think if somebody comes to you and says:
"I want to make an artist of you."

That's unproductive.
I was thinking that torture may rise the performance.
Do you still have The Cat O'Nine Tails' which I borrowed you? |

I agree with all of you. Oh- NO I don't! Don't kill the artists, I AM one sometimes!
StevePax: I do agree with you. The jerks that make stupid/rude/ignorant comments on my photos aren't going to suck me into their little drama. Read 'em, dismiss 'em, move on! There are just too many people here that I enjoy, and pick up really good information from. I'm certainly not going to let the other idiots run me off! |

I agree. I never let stupid comments get to me. It's just not worth it. Too much other crap to deal with in day to day life.

Why cant people send a private message asking for further explanation of a rude/stupid comment. I mean what's the big deal. So someone didnt like your picture. So what? Do people really expect EVERYONE to like EVERYTHING they do?

I sure don't expect everyone to like my photos; and it's a good thing too, cause sometimes my husband doesn't like them! LOL! |

At a writing site I used to belong to (which no longer exists), I once used a rude comment as the title of an article. It sure got people's attention and I never heard anything from that person again.
The only thing to do with people who get pleasure from being rude is to prove that you're better than they are - quitting makes them the winner!
