A friend is looking to buy an ultra wide for canon. I have the Canon 10-22 and have been out of the market. What is the current best bet for the money? Any opinions? I'm satisfied with the canon 10-22, but the price (currently $666) is scary (in more ways then one!).
Any thoughts on the Sigma 10-20, Tamron 11-18 or Tokina 12-24?
thanks! |

| I'm partial to the Sigma 12-24 because it's the only UWA lens compatible with full frame cameras. |

| Canon 16-35 2.8L is nice on full frame. |

thanks. it won't be going on a full frame and I doubt he's go full frame anytime soon.
Also, the 16-35 or 17-40 were not quite wide enough for what he wants. |

Another vote for Tokina 11-16, I'm really enjoying mine. Good review here:

I don't think I've removed my 17-40f4 from my 20D (except to put on a prime).
If you really want wide (and cheap), try the 8mm peleng |

| I have both the Canon 10-22 and the Tokina 12-24. Both are fantastic WA lenses. The Canon is a bit wider, the Toke is built much more solidly. Both are very sharp and good performers. |

Tokina wide angles are worth every penny. I had their 12-24mm; sharpest lens I've owned, built like a tank, great performance.
I sold it for the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye - another great lens.

Me as well, very pleased with it, the f/2.8 really sold it for me. My only niggle is I wish it went a little further than 16mm as I find I am swapping between the 11-16 and the 17-55 quite a lot |
