I've got a Sony 19" flat screen Monitor that always displays too brightly. I've got a Spyder calibrator and I calibrate the monitor and create the new profile but a few days later the monitor is really bright again! I recalibrate and it's fine again for a few days!

I've checked and the computer is using the correct newly created profile so something else is changing the brightness! I've reset the monitor to factory defaults and checked through the menu and there seems to be no "auto adjust" settings ....

I've sent the monitor back to Sony under warranty for a separate issue and it's come back fixed but still the same brightness issue.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here before I chuck the bloody thing out of the window!

Is Adobe Gamma disabled?

Is that a monitor setting or a pc setting as I can't see it in the properties on the pc (can't actually check on the monitor as am not at home and accessing my pc remotely)

It's something that loads automatically when an Adobe product is installed but can be removed.

Google Adobe Gamma Removal and you should get detailed instructions (not hard) if that turns out to be your issue.

If you don't have PS then that's probably not the issue.

Also, does your monitor have it's own calibration tool? If so, is that turned off?

Thanks for your reply

Adobe Gamma is not running on my machine (I generally delete any startup programs straight away as I hate all the additional rubbish that tries to run on startup)

The monitor doesn't (seem) to have any calibration tools, just the normal brightness, contrast, gamma, temperature which have all been reset to defaults.

When you say 'reset to defaults', is that before you calibrate the monitor?

Are you sure the profile created from calibration is actually loaded?

yep, set the monitor to the defaults before calibration.

I am certain it is using the correct profile as it let's me name the profile so I have been giving them date orientated names.

I guess it has to be the monitor itself, I'll see if I can find an online manual.

Happened to me awhile ago. when it looks uncalibrated open up the spyder program and exit out of it without running it. (IE open then imediately close it. It should reload your profile correctly. Mine did that for about a week and has now stopped and works fine.

Are you perchance running Vista? I know that this was an issue early on with Vista, but I thought it had been addressed with SP1.

Yes, it let's you name it, but is it the default profile assigned to the monitor?

The only way to tell for sure is to go to the control panel/display/advanced/colour management to find out. Whenever I recalibrate I have to manually assign the new profile to the the display.

No Vista ...

Yep, under control panel/display/advanced/colour management the last one I did is the default but the monitor is currently still in calibration from when I did it a couple of days ago .... maybe it's something changing the calibration profile then, I'll delete all the others so there is only one and see if that sorts it!

Nope, it's definitely not changing the profile as I deleted all the others and yesterday I recalibrated and it was way out :(
