I searched the forums but couldn't exactly find what I was looking for...

I would like to print out some of my pics at Kinkos, and since they're idiots, I need to know exactly what I'm getting into...

I edit in CS3, what color profile or other settings should I use to send to them for printing? And what settings should I edit in?

My concern is that I will edit the shot how I see it on my monitor, then convert it for printing, and it will look different, but maybe it will turn out the way I want it to after printing?

I'm new to this and haven't had much success with printing in the past, any pointers? And sorry if this topic is redundant.

Thanks in Advance,

AP

Oh and what USM settings work best for a 10 x 8 print?

It's not really a one size fits all. It will depend on the image what USM settings work best.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread. I too am confused with the whole color profile for printing process.

What kind of output device are they using: laser, inkjet, or photo-imager? The answers will probably be different for each type, brand, and model of device.

That's what I was afraid of!

Probably Laser printer, the 8 x 10s only cost about 1.50 so I like to get them there just to have tangible records of my shots

You can get an 8x10 photographic print on Fuji CrystalArchive paper at Costco for $1.49. I gang-up some "wallet" prints on an 8x12 print for the same price, like this:

You can upload and order over the internet, and pick up the prints in 1-4 hours, or have them mailed.

If you're not a Costco member, most other online print services have 8x10s for $3.00 or less. I only use laser prints for business graphics or proof sheets.

I've been using Costco for my prints as well. Do you upload as AdobeRGB 1998 or sRGB?

Most of my editing is done in lightroom which uses the Prophoto RGB color space.

My advice...

Go to Beth Schiffer Photo Lab and do your everything there.

They have work spaces with PS and very nice monitors where you can make adjustments after test prints are done.

Quality, high end printers and paper, packing materials...the works. It's easy, they're friendly and very helpful.

I did both color and B&W for my exhibit at Druids and enough "old school" film/darkroom photographers thought my images were high end, film prints for me to give their facility a big, thumbs up. Enough said.

You'll walk away happy.

I;ve mentioned this before, and I'm going to again. you should try FullColor.com they are better than kinkos and around the same price maybe under a dollar more. check them out. I have had several things printed their. from canvas, artboard, reg. prints and all have come out very nice.

I've had pretty decent results with Meijer.
