I was thinking about maybe having a Best of Landscape from 2008, Best of Portrait from 2008, Best of Macro from 2008, I know this swaps up the idea of the Best of 2008 idea a bit, but I think it could be beneficial, and could add more involvement, when we split it up into subcategories.

Just a thought.

Great idea IMO & maybe even consider a Best of Sports/Action 2008

I would also actually suggest that they be exclusive. Although we may have shots to enter in more than one genre, we have a hard enough getting people to vote on ONE 700 entry challenge. I'm sure it would be worse with 3-4 500 entry challenges running at the same time.

I really like the idea. I would support it.

And as long as we're creating a wish list ... let the "Best of ..." photos be limited to 800 pixels on a side and 250 K. What better gift to best show off the best of this community's great work.

I like this idea a great deal. How about running these "Best of___" challenges in a series of sequential weeks? That way the entire month of January could celebrate the best of DPC and the voters wouldn't have to vote on 1600 entries at once?

I agree, they should either be exclusive, or at separate times (like bassbone suggested). I think this would be a great way to showcase what people are truly good at, because a lot of people are very talented in portraits, and they don't stand out quite as much in a Best of 2008/Free Study.
