Asia usually comes to mind.

Look at import duties to see if it is worth it to buy overseas and bring it back.

My guess would be no. Singapore is completely different that it's neighbours. I'm by no means an expert, but I have visited twice. I would shoot andrewt a pm. I'm sure he wouldn't mind providing some insight.

I got the best value for my money in China.

In my experience, Singapore is not that cheap for camera gear, at least compared to the US. If you are there and you want to check out prices, go to Sim Lim Square. It's a six-story "IT Mall" and any taxi driver will be able to take you there based on the name alone.

Not sure about Sigapore but in recent years I've checked prices for Nikon cameras and lenses on visits to Candada, Italy, China and Thailand and found they are not cheaper than I can get in the US.

Do you mean the 5D or the 5D mk2 ?

If you mean the original 5D I would suggest you get a refurb from the Canon Outlet - none at this moment, but they come up pretty frequently with the lens attached.

If you mean the new 5D mk2 the cheapest I know of in the UK currently is Dabs.com which has the body only for £1800, against the USA at £1749 (darn the collapse of the pound) and you get UK warranty , no import duty, or any other hassles.

in the US - how much does the 5D body go for?

I don't think you'll gain much currently because of the currency fluctuations.

Hi all, in general Singapore is not that cheap anymore, it really depends whether the buyer is ok with grey imports & such (which can be significantly cheaper than those brought in by the authorized agents). For is photographers in Singapore, the best country/place (nearest to us) is Hong Kong & Thailand. So far from what I have see HK is the best and can be 10% - 20% cheaper.
