Does everyone still want to do this? I am excited about this and would be willing to handle some logistics work to make it happen if we can get a decent turnout.
Would everyone be interested in my trying to find some lodging options such as 2 or 3 hotels that might give us better rates if we take a certain number of rooms?

Here's my thoughts; see if this is appealing to anyone else.
Have this meeting in Savannah, GA at the dates already given (April 17 & 18, 2004).
We'll see if we can get discount rates at one or two hotels and possibly a bed & breakfast or two (for those romantic souls). Ask the convention and visitor's bureau to help coordinate a photography tour through some local sites (they offer this in conjunction with their local tour agencies).
Have a single dinner get together scheduled at a local restaurant with a set price range so that you know beforehand what it'll cost you to sit down to sup with some of the photog greats from DPC.
One or two informal hands-on tutorials/mentoring lessons where DPCers can help others get more familiar with their equipment and those who have cool gear can show some of the uses of light meters or reflectors or whatever they bring.
And . . . if anyone is interested, we can setup a shootaround with aspiring models (male, female, all ages) for a couple or 3 hours at a site on Saturday or Sunday afternoon. This might give some people practice at portrait shots. We would be expected to make the photos available to the models after the shoot and I would coordinate that, too, if we have any interest.
To me this would allow those who want to just come down (or up) and meet their DPC comrades time to sit back and relax while some people who want to have time shooting with other photogs would have a few events scheduled for them.
Lemme know what you think.

The Pennsylvania meeting was really fun even though there were very few of us there. I've always wanted to visit Savannah. It seems like an amazing city...all the history, gardens, and architecture. USA Today actually rated it one of the 10 most beautiful cities in America.
I could always use a vacation from work too. The 11 hour drive might be a bit daunting because I hate long road trips! You can put me on the list for now, but I'm not absolutely sure. |
