Don`t like to say this, but is it a bit out of focus on the face??

I did add a slight blur to make it more... fairyish.

There should be no shadows on a high key shot...her arm is shadowing her face. You almost have to have a light directly at the subject from the front to avoid this.

I got my building emptied yesterday - about to go out and bang nails. Been at the computer since 8:30 and it's not 2:10. Got a senior coming at 8 for a view and choose and 2 more tomorrow.

Hrm, looks like crosslighting.

Working with corner pieces on cycs is a little tricky. You need light from 2 directions for each side, but you want to keep that light from hitting your subject.

Good read, though you're going to have to figure out different ways of applying that to your cyc -

Well having been officially open for a month now. It's awefully quiet here.

We've had two shoots, the first went fantistic, and they've been back for reorders twice already, and the frame on their first order isn't even here yet!!!

Sales presentation for the second one is in a few minutes. I can just hope it does as well. All I need is about 60 a month of these instead of 2, and we can keep the house!!!

I takes a while to get things moving - and you need a lot of movement at 60/month!

I want to have a base of income before i make some move like you've made - more power to ya! Base as in sports leagues, weddings, a school - something that would generate enough revenue to pay the rent/utilities and debt. Then any 'walk in' trade is gravy.

It's taken me 4 years to quit worrying if the phone will ring. I've been too busy the past few months to market so I'm hoping WOM will work really really well into '09. On the positive side my average monthly sales this year is more than my highest month last year! My problem of late is late/slow paying seniors. I've got around $1200 owed me - money I'd like for christmas. It's the economy I'm sure and now we're heading into xmas so that doesn't help.

I'd expect you do be slow till april or may. It's getting a bit close to xmas for anyone to want pics and jan/feb/mar are traditioanlly the slowest in this biz - it's when there are bridal shows and national conventions because we photogs have the time to attend.

My remodel is ongoing - today the floor starts to go in, the elect should be finished and the sales room gets another coat of paint. It's gonna take 4 I think. Why is red so hard to get to cover evenly? I have a shoot on saturday (1 year old) and need be far enough along to use the studio, then a wedding 12/13 and one on 1/3 and a make up day at a college for yearbook pics. Then nothing till April or so unless the phone rings in the mean time.

In my conference with Marathon yesterday, they said our Snior season is actually very different from the rest of the US. Our should just start rampming up instead of winding down, because we have such milder weather. So we're gonna push for The last of the Seniors, and try to start inon an ambassador program for 2010 starting January.

Until then I'm consulting for the old corporation, and I think I'm gonna go buy me a barbie head to practice on. Kinda hard to learn posing and lighting with no subjects!

Barbie head - good idea. I can borrow my daughters 'big evie head' as she calls it! I knew losing sleep would pay off one day! (just got done putting down flooring in the studio. will finish it tomorrow (camera room at least) and start moving lights in for a saturday shoot)

Senior season here is driven by the schools' deadline for submitting a year book photo, seconded by procrastination. August and september are busy and then october can be at times. I've shot kids in December in the past - most school's deadline is mid-october, a couple right before or after christmas break.

Isnt this traditionally done before you sink tens of thousands of dollars into a photography studio?
