Anyone have any personal experiences with the Sony DSLR a200?

Just found out that my Canon Rebel XT is a lemon (bought it second hand) and would cost almost as much to repair as to buy a newer camera. I picked up this Sony as an "open box" item, on sale and got a really great deal on it. I have 14 days to evaluate it.

Wondering if you've had any experience/troubles with it?

No experience with the A200. I have had a A350K since March and I am pleased with it. Everbody has their own opinions (heck the Canon/Nikon flame wars ignore us Sony users). You should read all the web reviews you can find and compare them with your own experience.

Thanks Bob....I know that there's a LOT of Canon users in here and Sony IS a "forgotten" model. I've read reviews and it seems that they're pretty favorable on the Sonys. This is considered more or less an "entry level" model but, for my purposes, I think it's just fine.

My Canon Rebel XT was a lemon to begin with. It can't focus properly, manually or automatically. It focuses either behind or in front of where you're aiming and since you never know which it will be, you can't compensate unless, you get lucky and guess right. I bought it second hand so, there was no warranty on it and taking it in for repairs would be at least $150.00 just for Canon to put it onto the bench...then, heaven knows how much more??? In the longrun, I got this one new, 4 year warranty (store....1 year manufacturer) and it cost me the same as my used Canon Rebel so, I guess I am going to "play" with it for a few more days and make some decisions.

Btw...guess the amount of response to this question shows the number of Sony users in here, doesn't it? *smile*

I have both the A100 and the A200 and very good point in their favour is that they take the minolta a mount lenses which can be picked up at a much more reasonable price than canon/nikon lenses.
i also like the fact that because image stablisation is built in to the camera all lenses are is.

I love mine! I go out and shoot with friends who shoot Canon and Nikon and they all agree that Sony is just as good.
