I can see a whole lot of abandoned houses/farms/barns/factories/cars shots (including mine).
Any other ideas other than this literal interpretation?

Dude, you OWN this topic. :-)

haha thanks deb, but notice, this time it's not exactly "abandoned buildings" but just "abandoned", so it leaves room for a more open interpretation like abandoned soul or whatevah (that's where i wanted to get the ball rolling with this discussion)...but yeah i guess you'll get to see some abandoned building shot from me ;)

eta the bold text

Heh - OK. I love your whole abandoned portfolio. Well, a portfolio with shots of abandoned places, not a forgotten portfolio, but you know what I mean.

As for other ideas - I was thinking of some on the way home from work. An empty snail shell or crab shell; a moored or anchored ship or sailboat; "abandoned hope" however you wish to portray that; one separate from others, left behind (however you wish to portray *that*). And a classic staple - an abandoned vehicle. Preferably quite old and rusty and overgrown in its final resting place.

I'm open for more ideas!

Stray dogs/ cats/ people (probably homeless fits better than stray for the last one..)

People leave lots of random stuff behind them when they move.

Not that I will propbably do any of the above as there are lots of abandoned building round here for me to choose from ;)

someone with a young kid should do a shot of the kid on a park bench alone, abandoned. i cant do it, i have no connections with little kids, but someone else should

if you have a good telephoto you can indeed abandon the kid and take shots of crying, talking to policeman,... ;-)

Would like to get my camera rolling on some non-thing, or non literal interpretation as Mephisto suggests. All I can think of is abandoned projects, ambitions and how the vacuum cleaner occasionally sprawls in the middle of the living space waiting for someone to finish the job she got so terribly bored with.

For anyone in eastern ontario, there are quite a few ghost towns out there that would fit this challenge perfectly!

Why yes I do!

My girlfriend and I make it a point to visit a new one (or a few) every second weekend throughout the summer.

The websites I use for finding them are //www.ghosttownpix.com/ontario/index.html //www.ontarioabandonedplaces.com/ //www.ghosttowns.com/canada/ontario/ontario.html //ghosttownscanada.ca/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=554

The pictures on the sites aren't that great, which is why we try and visit some of them (not that my pictures turn out any better) =) A huge part of the fun is finding the history of the places, talking to farmers/land owners who's family were town founder some hundreds of years ago.

Northern Ontario has the best ones by far, mostly untouched since they were left but eastern ontario has quite a few along the old Opeongo rd (was a main logging highway back in the day and when the new 401 was built it was forgotten about, towns slowly died away after that).

I have an idea regarding this "abandoned" topic that I think are very very cool and have nothing to do with buildings ...

My first four ideas have to do with ... oh sorry ... someone is knocking on my front door ... I will get back to you later ...
