Hi, So for my birthday my family, who pushes me to do more with pictures because they know I love photography, bought me a few things.. one being an external hard drive. I am asking what is the best way to save your files. mainly the things I want to save are my children's pictures which have clogged up my laptop.. they are 4 and 5 and there is not a day of their life that is not saved in pictures on here.. so you can imagine the amount of pictures I have on here.. last time I did a scan and count it was.. like near 200,000... yeah I know I could make some killer scrap books...
they also bought me several packs of DVD's because they hold more when you save pictures to them than a regular CD..
can someone tell me the best way to go about organizing and saving all of this.. lol
preferably someone with ADD.. if you have that then you know compiling and organizing is something that I would do over and over and over again until I had it just right.. which in the long effort of doing would waste tons of DVD's.. lol if you don't have ADD your probably thinking I am crazy..
although, now that the family is paying attention to all the "excuse" I come up with to why I can't do this or that.. instead of just the mere fact that I NEED TO GO TO SOME KIND OF CLASS TO LEARN!! they are slowly buying up all of my excuses.. haha ( this is a good thing maybe I should say well I can't so it unless I have a brand new set of alien bee's haha.. think that would work?
I know that I agitated a few of you with the pe-wee football question I asked several weeks ago, that was misconstrue to all sorts of venues and I took things the wrong way as well as some of you... no names mentioned..matt.. haha but I had such a good rap ore with everyone on here helping with the silly questions I would come out with and so many of you had SOOOO much patients with me and my non tech. terminology.. I feel I have dampered that with the football forum and would like to say that I am sorry.

I guess a question to ask would be what operating system are you using? Next, do you already have hem organize in a way that you like on your laptop? Are you wanting to use the HD as a duplicate or to store excess files? Those questions may help us a bit. Thanks.

You have one HECK of a chore ahead of you :)
I think you mean OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), not ADD (attention deficit disorder) hehe
So, here is what I would do:
I would make a folder for each child ON THE DESKTOP
Make a folder inside that one for each year of their age
Then move all of your photos to the corresponding folders
Then, COPY (do not cut) the folders and paste them into your EHD one at a time (this is going to take a while so have a latte).
Do not delete them yet.
Then, make DVDs from your folders on your desktop. This also, will take a good while, be prepared with crocheting a blanket or something while burning.
Only after you have confirmed the move of EVERY file (breeze through all the folders on both your EHD and your DVDs and take a quick peek) may you remove them from your computer HD. |
