So just to clarify . .

Here's a shot I took a couple of years ago

This is a (wild) sparrow living in a Zoo . .

He's not caged in - but he's in a cage . . in fact he's made his nest in the support pole for the fence of the Tiger enclosure.

So is it a Zoo shot or not ??

lol

Just lay out some salt and wait for it to all melt away. Problem solved! :P

I've got an extra can of Harden Up I'd be happy to post you ;P

Um ... yessish, sorta', depending on your definition (and therein lies another debate!).

I am rather displeased to say I had a Redtailed Hawk land in my yard today, scaring away all the birds from the feeders (but also the squirrels, so it wasn't all bad), and then saw half a dozen deer while walking the dogs. All within easy camera range. I think the local wildlife is taunting me! Where were they last week when I was looking for them?!?

Anything over a 6 will make me happy, espcially after some of my more recent, erm, considerably lower scores ;-)

that is the beauty of shooting wildlife in the wild, it is so unpredictable and such a gift and a surprise when it shows up.
The bird is still wild, because while he chooses to live at the zoo at the moment he CAN go elsewhere : )
Unlike the lions, tigers and bears....

The challenge ins Wildlife. Why can't it be a zoo? I can understand scoring the shot a little lower if there are "signs" of the zoo...such as a fence or such...

However, If I see a close-up of a lion, tiger, zebra, snake or any other shot, I'm going to score it as if it was taken in the wild.

The problem I had when scoring some of the entries is that you see animals that you normally see at zoos and not in the wild. It made it very difficult for me to be fair on those. I learned to respect those wildlife photographers, it is not easy and it takes tons of patience and luck to get some good shots of wildlife.

The Zoo animals are pretty much enclosed and it is easier to photograph those. Not that it takes less merit, but it is easier.

i agree, if a shot is done well and impresses me and isn't obviously a zoo shot, high scores are in store. who knows, the photographer could have flown over the south america and stalked a jaguar around to get a shot for this challenge. how would YOU know? anyways, im sure this has been gone over already in this thread

Can we please keep this thread on topic? This is a SCORES thread...not a discussion on what is a zoo animal and what is a wild animal.
