Sounds like you are in the poor house. Maybe you should have entered poverty instead? :P I'm thinking that's what I should have done! |

5.1. Even I know that this is a suckarse score. I know it deserves a bit more than this.
It would seem that since the second week of the DPCIII has started there has been a lot of down scoring. It is disappointing to say the least. Not only for me and everyone else, but also the people that score low on purpose to improve their own/teams score.

Something is going on in here lately. I so agree with you on that. I'm not liking it and it feels like wasting time in taking shots for challenges in here. I think quite a number of people are getting quite fed up with the types of scoring patterns that we've been seeing from voters. Not to mention that some of the comments are really "odd" to say the least. I'm not just basing this on my scores or my feelings. I'm basing it on what I've been hearing from others as well. You're not alone in those thoughts or feeling! :(

This is an upturn over the past couple of hours but, it'll go down again shortly. I've been up at this point, then right back down to a 4.8 or so. I don't think my shot should be THIS low.

Why is it every time I have a score in the 5s there are a lot of people voting? Don't know how much of an affect this has on the overall average? It has pretty much canceled out several high 6 scores already. Go vote in the election and stop voting here!

Somehow I'm under the impression that the last Affluence challenge was the lowest voted ever? The blue ribbon came in at 6.4....
Affluence I
So, it wouldn't make sense that Affluence II would be that much of an improvement...well, okay....we know you probably entered something fabulous as always...;-) |

LOL....."Go vote in the election"! Maybe, Obama doesn't want to see his point lead go down with DPC voters! He's just lucky that he's in a presidency race....not a photo challenge in DPC! *wink, grin*
I'm just barely into that 5's range and clinging by my fingernails still! I think that I may need to shake things up a bit in the next entry that I decide to put into a challenge! *smile*

Chuggin' right along at a lovely 5.4 (and that's up from where it started!), and I have the most perfect comment from Yospiff which pretty much sums up my photography in general. I may add it to my profile after the challenge is over. :-) |

| OK, so I know this is only my third submission. I knew I had alot to learn, but I didn't think I was this bad. This challange I'm flirting with 5.0. I'm at 4.9143 - so, does anyone want to switch scores? I would be thrilled to end with a 5.0 - Oh to dream. . . . . |

Jamie, maybe a little dig, but no real offense intended.
I went to your profile page to see why you were giving up over a score that wasn't all that terrible. We all get poor scores at times (at least those of us who enter often) and those scores don't necessarily mean the photo is not good. Anyway, while on your profile page, I saw some good photos, but I also noticed your stats, and couldn't help wondering if you were giving me sub 5 ratings -- which admittedly I sometimes deserve.
Back to the purpose of this thread -- there's been a slight up tick, but it's still way down from the 6+ I was enjoying the first night.

Juli, it's interesting that you have raised this point because I think it reflects what seems to be a very common thought/sentiment running through a lot of people in this site lately. Everyone seems to be "ticked off" in some way or another, suspicious of others voting patterns, upset at their scores and yet, everyone is afraid to say anything on the subject because everyone is so touchy about it. So, these "covert" snipes (I just unfairly took one in the Wildlife thread as well) seem to be taking place throughout the threads as tension mounts.
It's sad really and I really should not feel the need to do this but, since you have covertly raised a seemingly negative point about me in this very public thread, I will say that my voting cannot be judged fairly according to the so called "stats" (which I feel are totally unfair to be displayed as they are btw). I have cast just a little over half of the number of votes that I have received and the difference is a mere .1304 difference between the two. These "stats" can be so misleading! I've had a couple of higher scoring photos that have raised up my "average vote received" otherwise, I'd have been way below in that category to what I have given out! It's unfair to judge someone or, someone's scoring according to those silly, disproportionate numbers. Take a look at some of the ribbon winners' stats and see where they are in this category! :)
As for your scores from me and me possibly giving you lower scores....well, let me ask you how you were doing between July and late September of this year, score wise? Has anything changed drastically for you since that time frame in terms of scores? The reason being, I wasn't even IN this site between July and late September of this year due to health problems. And, in a quick check of your photos, and my scoring, Juli, I haven't voted on ANY of your photos that I can in even the last 10 or more months. So, rest assured that my scoring is NOT taking down your scores. :)
But, to put your mind at ease, here are the stats on the latest challenges that I have scored and voted on:
Wildlife (where I took a LOT of heat for my opinion on the subject of description challenge in general)
You have rated 158 of 159 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 21 images (13%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.4430.
Poverty
You have rated 98 of 98 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 14 images (14%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.8469.
Anyways, I thank you for posting this publicly because it's showing all of us that there are a lot of people in this site who are very discontent with the way the scoring and voting is going and I'm sure that you have brought to the forefront in a lot of people's minds, reading this thread that there are a lot of upset feelings over scores lately and the unfairness of them all.
Oh yes....this is a score thread so.....back to that biz! ;)

Sigh.
I've lost my 5.4. That's what I get for checking scores, eh?
P.S. It really is a much better shot than last week's crappy entry, and yet it will probably end up scoring about the same.

Jamie, I publicly apologize for having caused you such concern. I truly did not mean any judgment of you with my little "dig/snipe". And of course I know that your votes (whatever they may have been) did not have any significant effect on my scores. I certainly did not mean to accuse you of any unfair voting.
I really was curious to know why you would be upset enough by your score to "give up" and turn you camera into a flower planter. I'm sure that was just an expression of frustration. My little comment should not be taken any more seriously than your little comment. So I hope this will let you realize that I do not mean any disrespect for you. |

Juli...apology not only accepted but, I thank you for saying it! :) That's something that a lot of people don't seem to like to do in here lately. :(
I was a little taken by surprise because I've always liked your work and your comments so, it "stung" a little at a time when I was feeling overly sensitive because I'd just taken quite a bit of flack in a couple of other threads over the past few days. No need to get into that here but, suffice it to say, that I was a little "battle weary" and felt like I had come to a more "neutral place" in this thread.
When I voiced my frustration at my score in this thread over this challenge (frustration was the correct term :)), it was purely just that....voicing my frustration because I really didn't think that my shot was bad enough to have a 4.xx score. I knew it wasn't ribbon winning material but, the 4.?? just felt deflating on top of the rest of the garbage that was going on elsewhere at me. When I saw your comment and it was from YOU, I was hoping that I was misinterpretting what you were saying and gave you the benefit of the doubt until my scoring was brought up and, that hit me rather hard after having been slammed in some PM's from the other thread, all one on top of the other and all at once! :(
Anyways, I took a few deep breaths, I've brushed myself off, gotten a transfusion after the bloodshed in another thread and from the rather harsher pm's and am trudging along again. :)
You know, I just said to someone else today that sometimes, this place (NOT YOU, in particular :)) feels like highschool or grade school with some of the antics that have been going on lately. It feels as though if you're not part of the "in group", you'll get your behind kicked in! *wink, chuckle*
Anyways, Juli...there is NO problem now and I thank you again for the apology. I'm extending my hand for a good old fashioned shake, ok?! :)
