A friend of mine was visiting me last night and said she loved a photo I had taken and that it would make a terrific jigsaw puzzle
Is that option available on D P C?
If so, at what cost.
I am from New Zealand so it may not apply I know there are places that do this but thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks

In the mean time.

I bought one from Club Photo years ago, but not sure it they still have them. Also you might check locally near you. Several drug stores and shops that offer film developing have it. |

Under your own prints --> gift items --> Photo Puzzle $10.95
I remember trying to find out a couple of weeks ago how large the puzzle actually is, but (unless I just looked in the wrong place) it doesn't mention the size on dpcprints.

These folks have cool stuff. You can mail them your own photographic print (what I did), or email them a file and they'll print a high-quality inkjet. I got a 7-1/2 x 9-1/2 Dinosaur puzzle made from an 8x10 print -- don't have important elements right at the edge.
Also, on their links page, they DO have links to other puzzle companies, including some who will make custom wooden puzzles (get your initials in there!). Last I heard, they were a family-owned business (the teenage son was the webmaster).

Try this, you'll love it. Makes great presents you can send to all your friends/associates for the holidays. I did that last year.

That actually looks worth $25, especially with the "Gift Puzzle" feature, which looks like you can make a stand-alone puzzle to send to others!
Thanks for the link! |

Yes, you can. If anyone wants, I will send them a working sample. They are really easy to produce. Just need your real email. |

My email is on my profile. I'd love to try one. Is this is all Windows-only?
Is there a way to import a picture other than by capturing the screen and pasting from the clipboard? That seems the real limitation. Can it resize from a real hi-res screen capture? |

Yes, it lets you resize. I am sending you a puzzle I just made. I am a registered use of 3.x, but I just upgraded to 4 to make this. But they want another $10 to access some of the new features. (Not an issue for you buying now...)
Anyway, they are good about it if you need to install on a second computer.
Everyone I sent these to loved them. (I didn't use this picture though, I used pictures of the people I was sending to!)

If nayone is interested and in the UK (although can post to US etc)
I am working for a company that sell 'high quality' jigsaws, these are not your usual carboard type, rather traditional wooden jigsaws laser cut and very thick. They are usualy sold to businesses as marketing and thnks gifts, but I am building them a site that allows users to upload an image and get it delivered back as a jigsaw.
I can arrange for this to happen now if anyone is interested.
email me if so..
(They also pay about £600-1500 for a photograph if they think it will make a good jigsaw) |

I probably can't afford to buy an actual puzzle right now, but I'm interested in the long run. Any chance of setting up a licensing agreement with these folks? Something like, DPC Prints having a gallery of photos available for puzzles, at some fixed reimbursement rate. Artists can choose one or more photos to be listed there. Advantage to puzzle company is they can pay a per-use royalty instead of up-front (unless they want an exclusive license...). Advantage to artist is royalty payment and link to other photos at DPC Prints.
Or maybe someone from there can just browse the Print galleries for some stock photos ...
Anyway, sounds like a fun project -- keep us posted! |

How many pieces do the puzzles have? I'm interested in a 16x20 or 20x30 puzzle with something like 1000 pieces, but if it's wood and for promotional purposes, I'm guessing theres 10-20 pieces? A huge and difficult puzzle of one of my photos would make a great christmas present for my gran :)
