Hey, just curious if anybody else who pre-ordered a 5D Mark II at Amazon got a delay email. I assume this is simply because the order has been outstanding for 2 months a month and not a statement that the 5DII itself is delayed, but it seems odd that they would enable this notification on pre-orders.

They said they would automatically cancel the order by Nov. 17th if I do not specifically tell them not to. Very strange behavior for a pre-order.

Maybe it means that the date the pre-ordered item is due to arrive by has been pushed back to a later date.

Let me clarify - the screenshot below is from my actual account on Amazon - not from the email. It's legit. I'm just wondering if anyone else who pre-ordered saw it as well.

I'm also getting the jitters and am about this close to ditching and going with the 50D... but I just can't bring myself to do it. Dang you, 5DII, and your outstanding noise performance!

See, that's the thing. It's never had a due date, and Canon just says "by late November". Mildly frustrating, I can tell you.

Before you consider the 50D do alot of research. There are alot of unhappy 50D customers due to Err99. Here is one thread with a poll, and just about every board you can find POTN and others have the same thing going on, apparently there is either a hardware or firmware issue with them.

Thanks for the info. I looked over the 50D samples again this morning and just couldn't stomach the noise. After seeing the 5DII samples and the added HD video feature, I'm hooked. I guess I'll be waiting another month or more... =P

The most common shipping time frame I have seen is the "First Half of December."

I stopped in at my old camera store stomping grounds and they can't even place an order for the 5D Mark II yet. Canon hasn't assigned it an order number. (They have a waiting list of 15 people already).

Yes, there is much speculation about when it will actually ship. On the day it was announced "end of November" was the expected arrival. Some think sooner as there is margin-for-error built into the schedule, while others think later.

I signed up for the Amazon pre-order as soon as it became available about a day after announcement. It's likely that anybody who signs up now at any online merchant won't have one before 2009. Brick and mortar stores are a possibility, however...

I wish Canon would just give us a hard date.

I feel for y'all... I remember 3 years ago when I was on the list for the 5D MkI, I don't think I had any fingernails left, LOL. I'm *forcing* myself to wait until the Spring on this one, and even that is a back-pedal for me; I told myself I would skip a revision when I bought the 5D, but the 5DII just brings too much to the table for too good a price.

This comment coming from you solidifies my resolve, thanks. =) Now if only there was some news, some tidbit of information that would tide us over... I wish I had kept my XT until the 5DII was in my hands. =(

Always willing to help others spend money! ;-)

Seriously, it is going to be *very* painful to wait on this one. But I do have the 5D to shoot with, so it's not like I really deserve to complain :-P

ETA: In real terms, the 5DII is only 74% of the cost of the original. That's taking into account 3.1 years of inflation at 3.3% annually.
