Is is possible to have the forum set up so we have the option of receiving them as email? Like an email list?

Don't think that's possible at the mo, Jae.

That would make for a huge e-mail file every week.

well, large, it could be. But not every week, like real time.

Maybe all threads that you participate in could be emailed and/or you could just choose certain threads to 'watch' and those could be emailed?

on a forum I have on one of my websites, the person that creates the thread has an option of receiving an email when their thread is replied to.

That would probably be an option that isn't hard to set up, since this is a php website.

It's pretty easy as it now stands. Log on and go to your "My Profile" page and look up the forums your started or for which you contributed. No need to clutter up mailboxes.

I know that you can do that, but that means you have to check it instead of getting an email that tells you when the forum has been replied to. The email it sends is less then 1K. It just says "Your forum (forum link) has been replied to on (Website name)." I don't think thats to much clutter, unless your starting 1,000 forum topics a day and clicking the checkbox to receive reply emails on each one.

I think something like this would promote even more use of the forums.

One of the forums I visit has the option to be sent an email when someone posts in the thread but doesn't send another one until you've checked...that way you don't get 72 emails because there have been 72 more posts. It's kind of nice that way.

www.actionscript.org

uses that type of set up
emails a small message linking you to the thread that has been replied - and states who has replied
i enjoy that service - you dont get any more emails from that thread until you go back and look at it...

EDIT - its also a php driven site...

why not just have private messaging completely done through www.dpchallenge.com instead of needing email at all?

like zone.com?

i would rather like to check a message folder - than have it just pop up at me...

no?

Some lists I subscribe to have several options.
(1) No email - check web only
(2) Daily Archive - sends one email daily with all activity
(3) Instant Email - As soon as something posts, it is emailed to you.

Of course having options such as email only responses to threads I have participated in
and send a notice when a thread I have participated in has a new message would be nice to.

The more options available, the more useful it could be to more folks.
