I wanna buy something from ebay, a new product from some seller which say they accept payments with visa card and not only through paypal (I don't have a paypal account as my country is not eligible). So, did anyone have any experience with paying via credit/debit card on ebay and what are your opinions!?
Thanks |

I've used a debitcard on EBay before with no problem. It's been quite some time, however. EBay is probably the single biggest target for online thieves. |

I have made HUNDREDS of purchases with my debit card through Paypal, but have also used it when the seller would not take paypal and required payment through credit card only. A great majority of the issues with theft on ebay are due to "spoof" emails sent out that look like they are from Ebay with the logo, etc.. and they say that your account has been suspended, yada, yada, yada...and then want your credit card information to reinstate your account. If you are smart and don't respond to these emails and deal directly with Ebay and Paypal on their home sites, you should be fine.

And also keep an eye on your statements so that you spot any unusual debits. |

Ok, I have a seller who accepts just visa card, without paypal, they're an authorized dealer but I'm still sceptic (!)...:-O
Here's their rating info:

No experience with them, but their feedback and number of transactions seem pretty good. Over 10,000 transaction and 99+ feedback raises no alarms and I would deal quite happily with them.
Note: I deal on ebay regularly both as a buyer and seller with 100% feedback and over 500 transactions.

What I've been told and why I don't use my debit card on the internet as much anymore is that you don't get the same protection from your debit card as you do most credit cards, even if used in the credit mode rather than debit mode. So if you don't get what you bought or not what you thought you were getting, you have a harder time getting a charge back, if you can get one at all. And if they suck your checking account dry, you have a lot less recourse than if someone takes your credit card and takes it to the limit on a $25 purchase.
What I like using is my bank lets me create one time use credit card numbers for the exact amount of the purchase. I do this on line and I get the information so it is seen as a credit card transaction to the merchant. But once it's used, it's discarded.
Mostly I don't use e-bay or pay-pal very much any more because neither e-bay or pay-pal care who gets ripped off, the buyer or the seller, they just want their transaction fees. I'd rather go directly to the merchant if I can and buy the product.
Mike

Just that most of us have never had a problem with debit cards, so we see no problem with them as long as the owner is careful.
You on the other hand, seem to be much more cautious than the average person. |

Ok, I tried to pay with 3 different credit cards on e-bay, including e-gold visa card issued in NYcity. Nothing works. It has to be paypal or nothing. I'm so pissed off. My country is not eligible for paypal so I'm doom-diddly-doomed.

Are the transactions being rejected by the credit card company? If so, a quick call to them with details of the transaction you want to make including the amount of the charge will usually clear things up.

So, the credit card company isn't letting the charge through? That's odd but I guess that's their prerogative.

No, sorry, I was being a little bit cynic and bitter. It's the seller. On their website they say that they accept credit card only (without paypal) but that's not true. So, it's the seller that doesn't accept the credit card. |

May be a good idea to contact eBay as they don't like sellers who put untruths in their listings...that's the whole point of having more than one payment method. Perhaps also a PM to the seller to get them to clarify their details for payments?? |

Yeah, I agree. But, here's the deal: my friend went to NY city 2 weeks ago. I asked him for a favour to bring me some piece of equipment from USA. I didn't want to bother him with money or to waste his time there so I said I'll order it from internet and get it shipped to the address where he's staying at. After numerous problems I've experienced in the previous 10 days (people not believe me or being amazed how I wanted to pay from here and get it shipped to NY???) I think I'm gonna quit. Sometimes the easy things are so hard. |

Ah, I see the problem now. I can also understand the reluctance of the seller to comply with your request for shipping as there are so many scams going on that they probably fear this could be one, maybe they have been the victims of one?? I know it doesn't solve your current problem. Have you explained the situation to them? Where is seller located? This could explain a lot also. Don't give up yet, there is always hope that things will sort themselves out.:) |

Most places expect merchandise to be shipped to the billing address of the credit card.
