Maybe it's a stupid question, and speculation is all I can hope for, but does anyone have an opinion on how the pending recession/deflation/economic forecast will affect the price of consumer electronics? I'm ready to buy something, but with my Charlie Brown kind of luck, either I'll wait and prices will skyrocket, or I'll buy and prices will plummet. Thoughts?

Prices generally follow supply and demand so it is possible that prices will come down as demand goes down. However, with the popularity of some things the demand may not fall off enough to warrant a price decrease.

I don't think they'll lower prices, prices of goods tend to stay constant in the short term (econ 101), but rebates seem plausible if consumer spending dries up.

The upcoming holiday season, I guess, is another variable to throw into this already complicated equation...

If they follow what the car manufacturers are doing, I'd expect to see rebates or some kind of incentive. But if we keep buying they'll probably drop at the regular rate.

I would expect to see rebates & some drop on the older stuff but nothing on the new stuff.....

Used stuff (camera bodies) are dropping like rocks in pool of water. Great if you want to buy, bad if you want to sell.
The dollar is weak and that generally means imports will cost more in the US.
Gas is dropping, so maybe prices will drop that went up earlier this year in response to high fuel prices.
No clue on what the credit situation will have on all of this. I'd suspect stores already had their christmas inventory ordred and financing arranged for it long ago, but they may need to move the merchandise even sooner/faster than normal to get the cash flow moving, or even for fear of a slow (as it's being predicted) holiday shopping season.

Actually the dollar has been climbing against all other currencies.
