I'm going to be in Chicago on business for about a week, starting on the 17th to assist in a systems conversion. If it goes well, I should have some free time later in the week to do some shooting. Not knowing much about the city, I would love some suggestions of places to shoot in the afternoons or evenings.

Thanks.

I'll be there for the ACEP meeting from the 26 to 30...will miss you by a week. I'd love suggestions too! Maybe a mini GTG for drinks! :D

Architecture and street scenes are the two things the city offers in spades. The architecture can be found by looking up, the street scenes by getting away from those tall buildings and into the surrounding areas. Speaking in general terms, for sweeping vistas of poverty head south and west. For scenes of various levels of affluence and ethnic neighborhoods, head north. Then again by the 17th it might be soup lines across the board the way things are going.

There's also all the touristy stuff (Millennium Park with the shiny silver 'bean' is always a hit) which is on the lake front and close to the loop. Easy enough to find all that in any guide book or online.

Depends what you are looking to shoot. If landscapes are your thing options aren't so great, but your timing for fall color is probably perfect so any larger forest preserve might be worth a visit (if you have a car). There's a relatively large patch of woods up in the north burbs called Ryerson Woods which would be worth checking out.

I live here. Photographer's paradise it ain't.

My wife is ACEP as well, but won't be attending. Small world.

Depending on your tastes, there are countless places to shoot... Navy Pier and the lakeshore, along the Chicago River, the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, Museum of Science and Industry, Buckingham Fountain, Rush Street, China Town... Frank Lloyd Wright designed many homes in the suburbs. You may want to check out more ideas here
