If a single photographer taking a picture in the street can be branded "exceptionally unchivalrous", then what about the 4, 200, 000-odd CCTV cameras in the U.K.?

The lady did not have an expectation of privacy (according to Australian law at least you dont even have that in your own home if you can be seen from the street), and the photographer most definitely should not have pleaded guilty.

Wow, they make it sound like some sort of violence occurred.

The lady should have been wiser not to drink so much and walk into a public street. She should have looked for a bathroom if she wanted privacy. What you do in the privacy of your home is your business. What you do in public is everybody's business.

It is also a double standard. If he was fined for being "exceptionally unchivalrous", she should have been fined for being exceptionally unlady-like.

I thought it was actually "exceptionally unchivalrous" to be drunk and disorderly in public... maybe I am wrong here. I feel the guy was documenting the case of drunk 'lady' in street rather well. obviously his lordship is prone to a few jars himself to apply such a ludicrous penalty.

The irony of this quote and the word chivalry used in it is truly baffling, or am I missing the meaning of chivalry? *shakes head*

"I'm going to impose a fine to remind him chivalry is not dead and when somebody is in distress you leave them to it."

To me chivalry would have been taking the photo, asking if the woman needs help, offering to get her some and then asking her to sign a model release form to avoid prosecution. *tongue in cheek*

What you said! If someone's in distress you should offer help, not 'leave them to it'...and then get them to sign a model release so you can send them the pic showing how disgraceful they were in public!

Strange.....

Here where I live, if you drink too much, go out into the street, and toss your cookies, you're likely to get fined for drunk & disorderly.

And should you happen to get captured by a photographer, too bad about your luck.

How on earth did this even get into court?????

What a weird world it's becoming!

He has not done anything wrong in my book but I think you need to be a little careful these days with regards to taking photos in public. There seems to be a problem with the people who carry out the law and the misunderstanding of the laws I.e. police etc - the words of the judge are amazing and totally incorrect. What was a lawful action has landed this man with a criminal record.

At least public intox and a trip to the city jail til you sober up.

ETA: and a $60 fine

it seems that vomiting in public is more acceptable than taking such a horrible picture. Sad.
