I've always carried around a Canon SD400 (IXUS 50 in the UK) because of its pocketability when I can't have my D70s with me. But it's getting a bit outdated now, and there are a lot of shiny new compacts on the market.

What do you guys think of the new SD990? I also had a look at the Sony W300, but I think I'd stick to Canon/Nikon because of my stock of SD cards. I also like the wide angle of the Canon SD870, but that one doesn't have an optical viewfinder, nor manual control.

I don't know about the SD990. I wasn't happy with the SD1100 I got my wife - terrible focus issues.

I picked up an SD790 (wrote about it in this thread).

I got it for the same reason. It's nice, but the noise above 400ISO is too much for me. I've gone higher with the ISO, but I have to use neatimage on it.

I did a bunch of research on them, but I forgot why I didn't go with the SD1100. Maybe price. The SD790 was cheaper and had enough pixels for me.
