I set up a new flash site //jasoncrossphoto.com, but I can't seem to get the flash file to only load the next scene. Instead it loads the entire movie during the pre-loader which seems to take a long time on some machines. I am just not very skilled in flash, so I don't know what I am doing. Any ideas? |

Thanks for the kind words for sure!
It is some sort of programing screw up where it is set to load all of the scenes, but I tried to tell it to load one scene and then at that scene load the next, yadayada. It is super complicated and frustrating, I am going to just have to spend a bunch of time messing with it I suppose.
Does it load really slow for you? |

i think the server is slow. its taking me forever to view the introduction for the page. :S |

Just the intro? or is it doing the pre-loader bit. I screwed something up and it sucks because I had it working at one point. |

I have some very slight knowledge of flash and created a few sites back when I was in school but to be honest with you I don't really see a problem with it loading the way it does. What you could do is create a splash page that allows users to choose an html or the flash site. Then add a counter on each and see if the flash was worth it.
As far as the loader, I would have to look at your .fla file and go back through my notes but that might take a while. It's up to you if you want to send the file but someone else might have a solution. |

It took about 1 minute for the site to load for me.
I haven't used flash in years, so I'm by no means an expert.
Is the entire site saved as one swf? If so, I would think the user would have to download the file before proceeding. I could be wrong though. |

hmmm... I have an idea that involves sprites, but it will take a while to correct. Thanks for the feedback btw. It helps to see how long it is taking for others to load the page. Colette - you must have some mad crazy fast internet!

Urm - i got 20 seconds.. which is kinda normal really if you think about the amount of images you have on there (broadband btw)... I see no problem with it as it is except if you have a load of people wanting to view it at the same time (it is +4mb in one hit... nice job with the intro page btw - keeps the viewer interested with the countdown) - i once announced a site on a message board and within about 10 minutes it went down because so many people accessed it at the same time. All about how good your host is :)
And here i was thinking you wanted some advice on lighting technique... ;)

You know another think you might want to do to speed it up is lower the size of the images that will help them load faster.

That is a good idea for sure. I sort of like the larger size, do you think that the site being so minimalistic would not be as nice with smaller images? |

I think you could shrink them a tad and no one at all would notice.

It took 9 seconds to load, just now. I timed it. |

Maybe I should put a dancing Jesus on there for the loader or something to keep people interested while it loads. Or boobs. |

Do you remember that Simpsons with the dancing Jesus for his website? I have been looking for that animated GIF everywhere because it makes me laugh so hard.
I like Jesus.

Hi Jason. I program flash for a living. I'd be happy to take a look at what you're doing.
Is that some commercial software you're using or did you code it all yourself? It is a very nice looking site.
Cheers,
