I am headed to Memphis for business and will have almost a full day free. Can anyone suggest some good things to photograph in the Memphis area or at least good places to visit with my camera? Many thanks for any ideas.

There are a couple of Giant Pandas at the Memphis zoo. Take a circular polarizer, as they are behind glass. Lots of other animals there.

The Peabody Hotel...the daily marching of the ducks.

We went to Memphis in the spring for my husbands work and we're going again in March. We really loved it there! I took this photo at the Gibson guitar factory:

You can get a lot of neat street photography on Beale street. I wish that I had taken more photos when we were there. We stayed at the Peabody and you absolutely MUST go watch the march of the ducks! They march them in in the morning and back out in the evening. I can't wait to go back in March just to see the ducks again!

Have fun! We loved Memphis and can't wait to go back!

I think a lot of great ideas have been posted already. Here's a few others I can think of:

Chickasaw Garden
Overton Park (near the zoo)
The Pink Palace
Pyramid Arena downtown
I can't believe no one has mentioned Graceland yet.

If you get a spare 30 minutes after sunset head across the river to the Arkansas side. The Memphis skyline from the other side of the Mississippi River at night makes for an outstanding subject. I strongly agree with the Peabody suggestion. Thats one of my favorite Memphis landmarks.

Try the BBQ while you're there too!

moondog mentioned graceland!

Anyone up for a Memphis GTG?!?!?!?!!?
10/12/2008 12:17:20 PM · #10
For those GTG in Memphis....may I recommended BOZO's BBQ in Germantown, TN, a short drive east of Memphis.

You will be very happy afterwords.

Green's BBQ is also a great eating place, but it's South Memphis and I would bring some body guards there. They make up the menu on a daily basis, plastered on the chalk board what is available for the day. MMMMMMMMMMMM....mouth watering.
