OK I heard back from the framer. There is no limit on what I can get at the discounted price, however they only have a limited number of the frame I have picked out and its a closeout style, we are discussing if I can get something else close, my idea for simplicity was to keep the frames the same, and the mats were what I was changing. I've also pulled a couple of mine out of the frames and decided to put one of my larger pano's in their place to allow some of the other artists pieces to go in, as many of the ones we have picked are far better then anything I have to offer.
As to what we are picking to go, since I dont know alot about the people who will be attending,(I havent attended one of their fundraisers before) so I'm kind of going in blind, but knowing the group has alot of animal and nature lovers, I'm more pointing Brandon in the area of landscapes, animals, floral. Imagine the photos you might see in an office setting hanging on the wall. Be it horses, flowers, landscapes, seascapes. That sort of thing. It may turn out I'm way off base, but I think these are the sort of things that appeal to a large population rather then artsy type folks. Make sense?
As far as my expenses. I have a couple of year round projects that I do to help me raise money that gets donated to organizations that help us. This year going in, knowing I may do something like this I have put back some money to help offset the framing and mating costs. I'd really prefer if anyone wants to make a monetary donation that it be done directly to CHAMPS as their budget is likely alot tighter then it needs to be this year with the charitable donations being down across the board because of a weak economy. If you decide to do that, just mention Brandon and Hazel while making your donation through the link I provided earlier.
Thanks again, and we have been picking some files, and already have a few that have arrived and I'll begin printing and framing the additional ones that come in. If I havent contacted you yet please dont be upset, there are so many good images from the people who have offered we are really having trouble picking out of all of them. And the hardest part is that many already have the lightsphere and I'm trying to remember who has asked to be put in the running, but by the weekend I should have everything done. We are going to sit down again tonight and every night this week I'm not working both jobs to look through portfolios.

I'm late to the party here, but as with everyone else, anything in my portfolio can be used if you need it. Given the number of folks who've already volunteered, I suspect you've got more than enough! But if the auction is a success, you may want to take note of what people liked and do it again at a later fundraiser. I'm sure you'll get just as many offers of shots to use, too!
Neat thing you're doing - congrats to you and all the DPCers who are helping out. And to Brandon for helping pick the pictures, too! |

Originally posted by MikeJ: I don't need a GF, but just wanted to add to Judi's, what a great idea. My wife has used a service dog for a number of years, actually her first one was our first male Bouvier, then one of his daughters worked part time as he got older and took over for awhile after he passed on. Then she got his grandson from the original breeder, who took over the duties right off the bat like his granddad did. All of them have been trained by my wife (she'd still be waiting on the waiting list if she waited for some organazation to come through with one and they have to many rules about other dogs too) and all have pretty much stepped into the role with basic obediance training starting as soon as their eyes open. So I can understand just how rewarding and special a service dog can be... and if it's possible, even more a part of the family.

Mike I meant to respond to this ahead of time, but just forgot. The waiting time and actually getting a service dog(without spending $$$ to get one on your own) is something thats tough to deal with. We were fortunate that we applied and were accepted into the program, and while it still took a while, not near as long as it did for some folks working with other organizations. Although from the time we applied to the time we recieved Hazel seemed like forever, it was worth the wait.
When we applied Brandon was just really beginning to have problems walking and getting around, when we got Hazel Brandon had been in his wheelchair for almost 1.5 years. But Hazel was just born when we applied, and she was specifically trained for him, and she really is a god send in so many ways. She is a companion, she helps retrieve things for him, turns on the lights, and she is physical therapy for him while he brushes and cares for her. I hope sometime soon they have the story I wrote about the process on their website(it was in the last newsletter) and I'll link it here. Anyway thanks again.

OK folks, I have sent a PM to those whom we picked an image from, and I have received most of them, some I haven't heard back from and thats OK too. Those that I haven't sent a PM too, please don't feel like you don't have anything I can use. The issue I'm having is I don't want to take and print and frame all of these as I'm not sure how they are going to do at the fundraiser, and I don't know what will or wont appeal to the crowd that will be there.
So here is what I am doing, those that have PM'ed me and offered a print or posted here, and are interested in the Lightsphere, we are going to put those names in a hat and draw a name. I think that's only fair since I wasn't able to take an image from everyone who offered. I had no idea the response would be so good.
If things go well with this fundraiser, I may hit those of you up who offered again at that time if you are still interested in helping. As it sits I am taking 10 prints, framed and mats and ready to go. I'll photograph the lot and post it here so you can see.
Those of you that are sending files still I really need them by sunday morning as I plan to finish them sunday and deliver them early next week. As the fundraiser is coming up quickly.
Thanks again and I will post the winner and get a mailing address from them when I do.

Guess I am late to the show, but if by some strange happenstance you see something of mine, I would be happy to donate, and I have no clue what the light sphere is but a new toy is a new toy L()L... Anyway, I don't think you would find anything but the offer is there.

| Hey Matt. Just saw this thread. If you happen to see anything in my portfolio you'd like to add (now or at a later date) feel free to PM me. Not everything in there has a printable file at the moment (many of my older images are scans from negs), but with a couple days notice I can come up with a printable file. |

That sounds like a great plan, and thanks a ton for the opportunity to be involved in this fundraiser. Will you also let us know what kind of dollars the prints pull as a group? I think that it would be neat to see how much DPCers can do when we work toward a cause.

OK so I have everything printed, framed, and matted, except my Pano, and I've managed to cut the mat wrong three times on it. So I'm going to give it another go tomorrow. :D I did have an issue with one photo that I was sent and wasnt able to get it printed properly, you will get an e-mail explaining. Sorry.
Anyway here is a photo of the 10 8x10's framed and mats to 11x14 that are going to be delivered, and hopefully my 6x30 pano as well if I can get my head back on straight tomorrow.
You can click the larger view to see the names and the photos clearer. Yeah its a terrible shot but hey its late on a saturday night!
BTW for those of you that sent me files and have never seen them framed and matted you are really doing yourself a injustice as these are all beautiful pieces.

Wow Matt, you have been hard at work on this today. I feel so good to be able to actually do something to help out by sharing my good fortune and an image.
Thank you for offering the opportunity, and for doing the physical part of making this happen.
Keep us updated.

Well, being that I don't need a LS, I've only just read this thread, and realised that it is quite removed from giving away a LS :D
I hope the fund raiser goes really well for you. I'm a bit late for this round, but please feel free to use any of my images, for a future event. Good Luck! |

Thanks everyone. I havent done so much printing, mat work, and framing of photos in a long time. I can only assume that the late hour was working against me last night. I got up this morning got Judi's print done and matted, got out my mat cutter got my pano done first try and its all framed now as well as Judi's. I sat down prepared the About the Photographer tags for the back of the frames. Have them all attached. Now its bubble wrap and box them up to deliver. I am actually quite tired and might take an afternoon nap! Tonight we will do the drawing and announce the winner of the Lightsphere.
11 11x4 frames, 11 8x10 prints, 11 mats, 1 6x30 print, 1 12x36 frame, I 12x36 mat, and 1 roll of bubblewrap will get these delivered next week. I want to thank everyone for their help and support with this. Hopefully these will do well for them. They are a very small organization who really rely on volunteers and the generosity of supporters to provide the dogs and services to their clients. And what they provide for the clients is just amazing. A day at my house will show you that. And they provided Brandon's service dog all for the cost of the application fee of $36. They even continue to help us with medical costs for her and other things we need. Truly amazing people, just like those here at DPC. So again Thank you.

I have drawn out three names. I have sent a PM to the first person in line to make sure that the lightsphere will fit their flash and that they are still interested. If they arent or it doesnt fit, I'll then PM the next person. Hopefully I will be able to announce a winner tonight if I hear back from someone.

I have heard back from the second person.
Lynnesite is the winner of the Gary Fong Lightsphere.
I want to again thank everyone for their help with this. When the fundraiser is over I will see if I can get specifics about what was raised from the framed photos.

OK I wanted to do a quick update on this for all the folks who helped. I just received a letter from Champ thanking me and all of you for your help. I will post a scan in a bit when I fire up my desktop. To let you know they were absolutely thrilled to get the donations we sent. They didnt give me a break down of the total. But in tough economical times they were still able to raise are you ready.............drumroll.
