So the ebay lighting is out the window. But the alienbee kit i settled on is close in specs to the beginner bowens kit.
I'd go for the bowens because i hear its top of the line and better than the alienbees. And I have to build on whatever i start with.

So heres the big problem, the bowens is 60hz 95-130v and my country uses 50hz 95-130v. Would it make a difference on perfprmance?

50hz and 60 hz will not interchange. you will blow up (literally) the bowens units. US is 60hz, much of the rest of the works is 50hz.
Check out Paterson Interfit, the Stellar units. Very good, takes bowens fittings, made in england so 50hz units should be available. suprised bowens doesn't make 50hz units.

Blow up! would make a nice dramatic shot :) I tried contacting bowens thru email, but it's not gonig thru. I'll try calling them monday, will chk out the stellar stuff.

So i guess photographers that travel the world cant use bowens.

My bowens heads operate at "90-130 60Hz or 90-253V 50Hz". A brief look at bowens.co.uk shows a number of heads with 50hz listed under operating voltage.
